Hey nitsu!
Glad you like it but sorry you are having this issue.
In the main player do you see black with a red X or the sub?
This is unusual since if it shows in the album art flyout it should show in the main player - usually its not an either or situation.
Can you try this?:
First close subgadget from the sidebar
Since gadgets use IE - close all your browsers and either run ccleaner or open a single instance and clear the cache
Add subgadget back and try again

If this doesn't have any effect please pm me with a guest account to your server for temporary testing if possible.

Open Source

Hi there,
I love your sidebar app, I am currently writing a similar app in .NET and was wondering if you are able to release the source code, or if there is a way for me to view the code which runs the app.

Thanks

Last.fm Scrobbling

Postby shousewright » Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:46 am

Love SubGadget! Thank you for creating it.

I've searched the forum and read the user guide and haven't come across a solution for the issue I'm having. Please forgive me if I have overlooked the answer. When using SubGadget, I'm unable to get it to scrobble to Last.fm. I login to SubGadget with the same account that I use when I access Subsonic via the web interface. Scrobbling is setup and working for my user when playing from the web interface, but does not work when playing songs from SubGadget.

I'm wondering if it has to do with the way that Subsonic sees me when accessing it from SubGadget. When I check the status in Subsonic, this is what I see when using SubGadget:

The Player is listed as:
SubGadget [shousewright]
(Windows-Media-Player/12.0.7601.17514)

The User as:
shousewright

The Now Playing as:
shousewright@SubGadget

When accessing via the web interface:

The Player is listed as:
Player 6 [shousewright]
(Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:6.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0)

The User as:
shousewright

The Now Playing as:
shousewright

So, anyway, the above may not have anything to do with the issue. It could also be an issue with Subsonic and not with SubGadget. I thought since the user was listed the same in each case that it should be working with Last.fm. Any thoughts, hints, suggestions?

Thanks!

Hey shousewright,

Glad you like it!
Actually in 2.9, SubGadget doesn't have the ability to scrobble BUT I am working on getting that put in there now :)

Most excellent! Looking forward to that update and would be happy to test for you. Hate that my 10 hours a day of listening isn't being scrobbled. :)

Thanks,

Steve

SubGadget 3.0

Postby kramttocs » Fri Sep 16, 2011 6:40 pm

SubGadget 3.0 has just been released on the Google Code site

http://code.google.com/p/subgadget/

3.0 Changes

NOTE: SubGadget will be in MiniMode right after you install the new version. Either undock (Vista) or make it larger (7) to access the main window
1. Completely reworked the main interface code
2. Reworked and re-enabled the skinning feature. Skins are very simple to make - anyone interested, just let me know.
3. The 'no image X' issue has been fixed (let me know if you still experience it)
4. The Cover Art flyout is now scaled based on the original image size
5. Last.fm integration (credentials must be setup on the server for the user)
6. Fixed error if WMP plugin was missing from computer
7. Fixed issue where MiniMode was missing Play button if Stop was pressed in full mode
8. MiniMode now uses the [Dock/Undocked for Vista] [Larger/Smaller for 7] feature of the sidebar- no longer a corner toggle button
9. Artist Directory albums show ratings (if available)
10. Server playlists can now be expanded to view tracks in playlist selection flyout
11. The visualization toggle has been removed - get ahold of me if you want it back

Thanks to erik, Vince, Steve and everyone who has helped with this release!

Hi,

it would be nice if the SubGadget supports Internet Radio links too.

For example: http://stream.100p.nl:443/100pctnl.mp3
Would be nice to have it all in 1 interface.

Thanks!

Maruko.

Hey Maruko,

(I assume you are the one I was just working with over on the Google code site?)

I don't see any issue with adding the ability to play Internet Radio stations. At this time though, like I mentioned on the Google code site, the stations stored in the settings file for SubGadget would be completely isolated from those configured in Subsonic through the browser interface since there currently isn't a way to retrieve them. I will contact Sindre to see if he has any plans to add a way to grab them though.

Out of curiosity, is anyone else interested in this feature as well?

Hey Maruko and anyone else interested,
Got some good news and some bad (but mostly good :) )
Internet Radio is working great on the gadget and I found a way to grab the stations listed in Subsonic so they show up as a new section in the Playlist selection window.
The bad news is that due to this 'unsupported' approach I am using, only Admin accounts are able to grab the stations from the server. There is a strong possibility that there will be a supported way of grabbing the stations in the future but until then this is our only option.
But back to the good news. Like I said, it's working great and for the stations that supports it, it will show the current playing artist and title. In my testing, I've noticed that it won't play 100% of the stations but out of the 10 I have tested against, it will play all but one. Pretty much any station that will play in WMP will play in the gadget.
I am not an avid Internet Radio listener so if you are and want to test this out (in its Beta state), send me an email at the address listed on the About page of the gadget and I can get it to you. Also, if anyone is interested in making an image to represent Internet Radio that matches the overall look of the gadget, send me an email.

SubGadget 3.1 Beta 2 is up on the Google Code site.

With the limitation that only Admins can pull radio stations from the Subsonic Server, the Internet Radio feature is complete.
So this really isn't a beta (except that debugging is turned on) but there's a few more features I want to get in before this is officially 3.1.

Let me know if you find anything I missed.

I avoided suggesting this feature before because I thought maybe it wasn't possible, but I noticed the subgadget player automatically pauses when I get a Skype call! Neat!!

I was wondering if you could have the subgadget player respond to the standard media keys (play/pause, stop, previous, next) found on many media keyboards. If that is not possible, would it be possible to assign customizable global hotkeys to perform these actions?

It's a pain to dig through my desktop to find the player whenever I want to watch a youtube video or something else because a gadget does not show up on the taskbar at all. Putting the player in always on top mode presents its own issues when playing games.

Thanks for the great gadget! I hope my suggestion helps.

Just installed the latest version - great work and now takes up less real estate on my sidebar :)

One thing that would be nice would be able to access the expanded view by double clicking rather than un-docking.
This is how all my current gadgets operate - with a single click to minimize.

I'm not really sure how gadgets work, what is the gadget coded in? There must be a way to globally detect media keys. Windows media player and a bunch of other media players do.''

Edit: Apparently autohotkey has the ability to send keystrokes to specific windows controls. http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/commands/ControlSend.htm
If you enabled a simple option for a few local hotkeys, us power users could create an autohotkey script to turn them into global hotkeys, leaving you off the hook for the "keylogger" part :p
