When I saved all my albums I did them all on the same settings wma lossless so hopefully all will be 16bit files.

I am going to try the WAR option and will keep you posted..

Thanks for you continued support :)

OK - I give up, what's the secret to getting it to download? Please don't tell me I have to sign up!

BK - you need a Skydrive account.

No way on that puppy! It doesn't even want to play nice with VLC - sometimes it plays and sometimes it doesn't! In VLC that is. I doubt if it will work in Subsonic. Do you have it working?

Write that is it for tonight !!! Not a single step closer .....

I have ss on a synology nas drive and I can't find anywhere on the web which tells me how to get tomcat on there so that I can then install the WAR version to then transcode the wma ....

Any further suggestions ???

I look forward to the next part of this adventure :)

The WMA Story - Part Two - The Revenge of the 24bit
To continue the saga this is what I found and sent in a pm to GJ
To all new readers this is referring to 24 bit wma lossless
I did a few tests of my own and all my players did play the track but some seemed to have problems with the first play :? including WMP - go figure
WMP, VLC, & Winamp played but stuttered on first play - WMP needed the most coaxing
Subsequent plays np :|
Foobar, Mediamonkey, MPC played np :)
Subsonic - silence :(

Guessing here but as the file ext gives no clue to the Mediaplayer (normal wma, lossless16bit, lossless24bit -all wma) it needs to start streaming the file
before it can load/configure the codec - hence stutter on first play

Please contact me by pm if you want to discuss film rights

So how do I resolve the issue ????

I am no clearer on how to proceed.

You are really going to have to spell it out for me here......

Just to recap : I would like to be able to access my music on my android device from my nas drive which has sub sonic now installed on it. I can view the folders very well but there is no way on gods earth I can get it to play the wma lossless files ( only jpeg ).

In plain English : How do I do it ?

Many thanks in advance and your patience and efforts are greatly appreciated.

Go here and grab the latest ffmpeg static build.
Unzip the file and go to the bin folder - copy the ffmpeg.exe file to your subsonic/transcode directory.
BUT rename the original ffmpeg.exe first or move it somewhere safe
Then test & hope
If it doesn't work then you can revert back to the original ffmpeg.
The other thing you could do is re-code the files to flac which play np in SS and are still lossless but that depends on how many files you have.

There will now be a short intermission - ice-cream & pop corn are available at the kiosk

Sorry Pac, it's not always easy to keep everything straight regarding SS as there are so many ways to change so many things that can affect the way it works, not to mention IF it works.

I'm not on a NAS so I don't know the intallation in any detail. There is a lot of information to go through to see if there is a solution that will work for you. I have countless hours troubleshooting my configurations in order to get various things working properly, unfortunately they are all on Windows platforms.

In general I have found that different ffmpeg versions will give different results with a given file changing nothing else. That is, I have installations where a file typr won't play and then all I do is switch to a different ffmpeg version and bingo, the file plays. So that's one avenue of investigation, Others have reported that the most recent builds from the ffmpeg site usually work better and solve a few problems and that may help in your case. That means you have to know where the transcode directory is on your installation and know how to put a new version of ffmpeg in the proper location.

Secondly, older versions of Subsonic used to use a two step process that used ffmpeg to transcode the file to wav and then use lane to transcode the wav output to mp3. I haven't used that method for a long time and don't know where to begin looking for the details on that, but I think ver 4.4 of SS was the last time the two step method was used.

In short, I was able to get the sample files you sent me working on my system, but that doesn't help you much as you are on a different platform that I don't have much experience with. Unless someone else is familiar with this particular issue on the Synology NAS there isn't going to be a simple answer.

As a "Hail Mary" option, you could try putting lame in the SS transcode folder and trying to find a good two step string to do the transcoding as I described it. I'll look around to see what else I can find and post it back here if I get lucky.

Hopefully someone else has a better answer for you.

I also think using the old two step model using ffmpeg > wav and then using wav > mp3 with lame might help if the new ffmpeg doesn't work, Do you remember where to find any of those old settings?

I'm in the process of dropping a WAR version of SS ver 4.4 to see if the old setup will play the sample files Pac sent. I'll see how that goes and get back when it's tested.

Did find this :-
Code: Select all
Step 1: ffmpeg -i %s -f wav -ar 44100 -ac 2 -
Step 2: lame --preset cbr %b --tt %t --ta %a --tl %l -S - -

Back to me popcorn :D
