That's not an easy question to answer. There's only one developer for the base project and I know his next priority once 4.7 is final will be to update the Android app. He also has a real job, so Subsonic development tends to move along unpredictably. 4.7b3 has been out for a while now and although I see some minor bug reports, in my daily use I don't see anything that's a show stopper and I can't ell you why, or how long it will take , to hit final release.
Just because a feature has been requested, doesn't always mean that it will make it into the program. There are many feature requests that have been around for a long time that haven't been added; the ability to make folders private or public to limit access by user has been around for ages, but hasn't ever been mentioned by the developer. Additionally. look at the size and number of requests in the FR section. they are all important to someone and are of a wide range of relevance, practicality, and ease of implementation for incorporation into SS.
Personally, it's not an important feature for me, but I guess I can see how it would be nice if you wanted to watch a series of short videos or if you wanted to watch all 13 episodes of Firefly followed by the movie without getting up to pee or use a remote.
Finally, be assured that Sindre does keep track of what goes on here in the forums and does try to respond to users interests. If the interest is there, he will look at it at some point and decide if it should become a priority for future development.
Another possibility would be to contact one of the devs in the Mods section. They tend to do a lot of cool things that haven't been done in the main program. I use MadEvil's Mashup Mod and I really like the stuff he's done to enhance the program. It's also very stable and easy to update. Definitely worth a look. Hakko does some nice stuff too, but it has more integration with online things like Last.fm, so I haven't tried it yet. Both these guys are active and will give you an answer if you post in one of their Mod sections.
