Question: When creating a new user, why is it necessary to enter an email address? Is that for some future use, or am I missing something?

I believe the intention is to allow users to retrieve their passwords but as far I am aware that hasn't been implemented yet.

It is in 4.7... on the login page there is a "forgot your password" link. I haven't actually tried it, but it is there and goes to a page that says "enter your username or email address to have the password sent to your email."
