It works fine on my HTC One S running ICS (4.0.4). When I play a song there is a sense widget that displays the current song with a pause, back and forward button, along with the album art. It looks like this:

It just works, I didn't need to setup anything to make it work. It's the same widget when I use Google Music. Maybe it's a Sense only thing? Anyone have any experience with a stock rom?

I'm running ICS+ (4.0.4). I can install an app shorcut to dsub via the phone settings for the lockscreen, but no widget luck. Am I overlooking something?

I wonder if it's a custom skin problem. Try running the standard google music app and see if you have anything show up on your lockscreen then. I just followed the way google suggests to do it using RemoteControlClient so I imagine it would work on stock ICS. It just worked both on my One X and my Atrix running CM7.2 (though it looked different) so I didn't think it wouldn't work on other ICS phones. What phones are you guys using that it doesn't work on?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 running stock firmware (TouchWiz ICS+). No lockscreen widget has ever shown up for me using dsub or Google Play.

Maybe this is why:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsun ... trols.html

You can get them on there if you use the pin or password lock under security. I believe you have to have the swipe disabled. I got mine working right now.

Sounds like an issue with Samsung's implementation of the lockscreen widget, not the app itself.

Yah I really don't understand why a manufacturer would go out of their way to break the default music lockscreen api. I mean I can understand fixing the look and feel so it doesn't look like ass, but the api itself has nothing to do with what it looks like it is just piping the raw data.

I've just started using the "Jukebox" mode that Subsonic has, which is basically awesome :). Would it be a quick change to make the hardware volume buttons work even when my phone's screen is off? I have a few apps that do this and it's really handy. Currently, to change volume, I have to unlock the phone, focus DSub, then press the volume buttons.
Thanks :D

I'm having an issue where even after I exit the Dsub app and my phone has been locked, the lock screen controls are still showing up. If I unlock the phone and then re-lock it, it goes away but a little while later it will be back.

It's also not showing album art very clearly on the lock screen. It looks all blurry. Not sure if it should look cleaner, but it looks kinda crappy. I'll attach a screenshot and you can let me know if it's normal.

I'm excited to have the notification controls and the lockscreen stuff. You're doing God's work son.

Using a Sprint Galaxy Nexus (toroplus) on CM10 nightly.

I am also getting the lock screen issue mrkniceguy has where sometimes it appears even when DSub isn't open and there's no media playing. I have the same symptom where unlocking and locking it goes, but it is back later. Seems rather erratic.

I am on a Galaxy Nexus with Jelly Bean.

Thanks

For the lockscreen issue I have also gotten a couple of emails asking me about this. The only time I have seen the lockscreen controls still there when not playing is when I pause the playback while the lockscreen is on (ie: via the lockscreen or unplugging headphones with phone off). I also have this same behavior on Google Music though, so I think the API was designed that way so you can press play again, because it goes away once you go into Android and don't press play from the lockscreen. Is this the behavior you guys are running into or is it truly popping up for you guys in a different situation?

As for the low res shot it looks like it is doing that for me too. I can't see anything in the code that is obviously downsampling though. I'll need to look more into that.

I'll double check and get back to you, but I'm pretty sure I sometimes still get the lock screen appearing after I click pause from the app, going to my desktop, doing some stuff in other apps, then locking my phone. Sometimes I wake up in the night and check the time on my phone but see the lockscreen DSub controls instead of the clock.

Will clarify this over the next few days and try to find a way to reliably re-create it.

Yah just try to be mindful of how you paused to see if it ever does it when you paused from within the app. What I commonly do is pause on the lockscreen, then just turn the screen back off, and it will still be there. Until you actually go past the lockscreen though it will stay right there no matter how many times you turn on/off the screen.

I'm aback after my lock screen investigations and have the following info which may help with this issue:

  • I finish listening to some music and press pause in DSub (the app, not the lock screen) & press my phone's power button to put it into standby (screen off).
  • If I turn my phone on again after a short amount of time, there are no DSub lock screen controls, as expected.
  • If I wait about half an hour, and then turn on my phone, there IS a DSub lock screen, not expected.
I then installed Doggcatcher as it's particularly sensitive to audio focus, and started listening to a podcast. After around half an hour audo playback stops and I am notified that Doggcatcher has lost audio focus as detailed here: http://www.doggcatcher.com/AudioFocus

I have sent the Doggcatcher log to myself but it's not conclusive as to which app is taking focus. I may try uninstalling DSub to see if the issue is resolved but haven't done so yet.

I don't know if DSub is taking Audio focus at certain intervals even when not playing but at a guess it might by why the lock screen control appear even when DSub is not playing and I have not used the lock screen controls to pause playback.

Hope this is some help...

Haven't even had a chance to mess around with your app yet (still at work), but bought it to help support your work. The regular Subsonic app is great and all, but I like options, so thanks for coding another Android app!
