I know you mentioned looking at gapless playback and I would certainly be interested in that (I'm aware that it would be ICS+ only). Just wondering if you've thought about adding replaygain support. I'm guessing that would be a pretty big undertaking and again, no idea if anyone else cares about that feature but it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks.

I'm glad to hear it is working well for you! Gapless playback is coming up pretty soon (would say next couple of weeks). And I have never heard of replaygain...what is it supposed to do/why would you want it?

Replaygain is used to normalize audio so when you are playing music, all tracks are the same loudness instead of having different volumes. This is a huge help when shuffling.

AFAIK there are two tags metadata fields, track replaygain and album replaygain. For track replay gain, it sets the volume the same for every track, bringing everything down to the same loudness. With album replaygain, all tracks in an album have the same loudness. I believe it's just an average of the track replaygain fields, but I would have to read up on it.

Would be cool to implement this, seems like it would be simple but I wouldn't know enough about it.

I just wanted to say thanks again for making this app! Before this, I was slowly and unwillingly moving to Google Music for the lockscreen controls, but now don't need to. And being able to exit from the now playing list is epic! Thanks!

Yeah, exactly what he said. It is very handy for shuffle, making everything pretty much the same volume. However, I have no idea whether this is something that can be done in the default android audio subsystem or not (I take it gapless is handled there?). I don't know enough about how this stuff works on android to say how difficult it would be to implement. I do know that winamp on android (paid version) supports replaygain.

[edit]: If you search these forums for "replaygain", you will find some info but it seems to be primarily about applying replaygain through transcoding, if you don't want to transcode then you are out of luck.

Hmm now that would be an interesting feature. I too have ran into that issue. For me it's not just annoying on shuffle, it's annoying when I go from one album to another and have to dramatically change the volume. I never really thought too much about fixing it before though. I just did a quick search and didn't find too much helpful info on how to implement it. I'll have to look into it some more, but this I think is another one of those don't hold your breath features. There is still so much basic functionality I'm working on just to have the app be usable that I don't want to get too side-tracked if it would take too much time.

Absolutely understood. However, if you ever run out of things to do... ;)

I second that, kudos on all the great work!

Too bad I can't find a useful ICS rom for my device so I can use those shiny lockscreen play controls. Maybe one day.

I just noticed this today, not sure when it was added but it's a great feature: I like that you can press a shuffle button when you are viewing a particular folder and it shuffles everything in that folder, for example, all albums by an artist. Definitely better than pressing play and then shuffle.

It got me thinking though. One feature that I kind of liked on my old ipod classic but doesn't exist in either rockbox or subsonic is the concept of "shuffle by album". Is this a feature that could be added in the client or would the server api need to add it first? Just curious...

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean by this, but you if you want to shuffle an album long click that album -> Play Shuffled, or go into the album and Shuffled is one of the menu options.

Sorry shuffle by album means each album will play in its entirety but the albums will not be played in their normal order...so for example, I want to shuffle all of artist x's albums, they might play like this:

album 5
album 2
album 8
album 1
etc.

[edit]: So it basically shuffles folders rather than tracks, not sure if that's any clearer?

Hmm I understand what you mean now. I might just add that as an option to choose which way you want shuffling to work since I wouldn't want to add yet another button for that type of shuffling.

Yeah, most of the time people (including myself) want to shuffle songs but sometimes some people want to shuffle albums!

Would it be possible to scroll titles that are long? This would be for either album or track titles that are longer than what is visible on screen.
Classical music usually has very long titles and currently there is no way to view the entire title.

Thanks

Probably, how do you think it should work to see the full title?
