I'm still having trouble :(

I used to get the "Error in BasicPlayer.play()" message. Opened Synaptic, uninstalled all the Open java packages I could find. restarted. Installed all the sun-java6-jdk packages, their dependencies, made sure mplayer will play an mp3 (it does).

And it still doesn't do anything.

I don't get the error anymore, but the log will say

Problem solved

Switching to the Sun Java6 JDK worked for me, too:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk
sudo update-alternatives --config java
sudo /etc/init.d/subsonic restart

Tag V2

Postby lucquebec » Sun Jun 26, 2011 3:39 am

My Jukebox player not working whit some mp3 files and playing very well with other one.
AND
I have 1.6 sun java system on Ubuntu 11.04
I found this solution :
It appear than some mp3 tag, like ID3 V2 with picture is not supported by the Subsonic java jukebox and you get Error in BasicPlayer.play() in your log. I remove ID3 V2 tags and keep only the ID3 V1 mp3 tags and the Jukebox playing very well after that. I suggest Kid3 on linux Ubuntu if you hope remove ID3 V2 tag.

I have noticed this same issue. I can't play tracks with album art stored in the ID3 tags in jukebox mode. Anybody know why this is?

has anybody come up with any other solutions to this? i'm running ubuntu 11.04 and this seems to be happening mostly on VBR mp3s, and it's driving me completely nuts.

i already completely removed openjdk and i'm just using sun now. i recently rebuilt my system- it was previously centOS 5.4- and had the same problem with the same files there.

fazel- could you share more details about your mplayer hack? i'd like to try that.

oh hey so, i just found an easy and awesome workaround.

this appears to only happen with certain high-bitrate and VBR mp3s, but you can set a maximum bitrate for the jukebox. i set mine to 224, and it works!

it's a slightly crappy solution because it means i'm hearing stuff at a lower bitrate... but a lot of my collection is at 192 anyhow, and i can't really hear the difference. hopefully a real fix will show up eventually, but now at least i can listen to everything.

hope that helps, guys!

So I see this thread is quite old but I found a solution that makes work all my mp3 files. In special I faced a problem playing files with cover art inside.

The solution is quite easy (found on a blog):
(http://www.pelzkuh.de/2012/10/funkstill ... m-mp3.html) It is in German but mainly says that the cause is an outdated library mp3spi1.9.4.jar. You have to replace it with the new one mp3spi1.9.5.jar. Links are provided in the pelzkuh blog entry.

I replaced the library and tada :-) working. I searched a lot of time so I think this post here makes sense altough it is quite old
