Subsonic Server Sharing? Browse other people's collections?

I'm not sure if "sharing" is quite the word, but it started with S, so it works for now. I apologize if this has already been asked/discussed/torn down/etc., but in a somewhat cursory search online, I could not find any sort of list or online group for Subsonic users (minus the last.fm one) with the intention/option of sharing access to each others' servers.

I'm ignoring the whole legal part for now (just disable downloading or something) and/or bandwidth issues (server operators' discretion), but is there such an online community/would people be interested in starting one up somewhere, somehow? Essentially just sharing music via SubSonic... pretty straightforward I would imagine.

So.. how about it? Thoughts?

it is a feature/ option available in kplaylist and widely used by friends of mine which are using kplaylist. actually by me as well, since i still run a dual setup on 2 servers... just can't get around some of kplaylist features and options. so (ignoring any legal issues) yes, i can see a not to small group of ss-users actually using a 'server-sharing' feature.

I think I've said this before Yes I would be glad to share my system with another SS sysop.I am sure we don't
have the same stuff on our systems so why not share?.

All I ask is if you find something to download just do it at a odd time of the day..

I always enjoying finding new music and would love to share what I have, Very eclectic, classical, Jazz, Lounge, Alt rock, 80s you name it. Im from the old alt2600 days so some of the stuff is old 128 and untagged but I'm working on that.

Max bitrate of 160 and all the recent stuff is flac, all the old stuff isnt and tagging is an ongoing process as until I got an ipod, what did I know i needed tags for??

For example if I wanted to share a song with someone I could just send that guy a link, rather than use spotify or youtube or something.

Yes, you can share like that. You check the box next to the song you want to share, and then go down to "more options" and click share. You can share songs, albums, artists, and playlists.

I never knew that. I've only ever used my administrator account, and apparently you cannot use the share function as admin? Is there any specific reason for that?


As for everyone complaining about how small their collection is, a few of these "collections" posted on here are extremely paltry and are chocked full of 128kbps music and they are completely unorganized. Don't feel too bad

***EDIT: to answer my own question, I was able to add the share permissions to my admin account by giving my username ('admin') role_id 11. I don't think I saw the sharing because I've had subsonic for 3 years and there was no sharing when I first installed, and thus when sharing was put in, it doesn't allow you to retroactively add it to an admin account. I think another way of accomplishing this would be to re-create an admin account and build it with sharing in the first place. Hope this helps anyone with the same issue.

i want to share but in conjunction with another list...
not just heres a user name and pass but more like connecting the two servers and let my users just link into their system and vise versa

so i can keep a secure user list and the other can as well and we can close off the entire connection with one click of a check box

once cleard by my server the user is automaticly approved on theirs via the servers sharing account...bla bla bla
call it a tunnel if needed... oooohhh or worm hole...lol
i got a need for sharing current playing song as well.... as i play on one system, others can listen to my stream like a radio...
if i change up the song im on it changes on their player as well
this is a good one come on guys ...please
