Automatically configure your router to allow incoming connections to Subsonic (using UPnP or NAT-PMP port forwarding).

this box in subsonic should NOT be checked right?

Leave UNchecked for now.

When you clicked Save, do you get any feedback?

Yeah, I still don't see your service running. We'll need to go back into router config and double-check..

Yep. I just did a full 1000 port scan and you show all ports filtered. Unfortunately, you'll need to contact windstream tomorrow, and find out what can be done to get your port 4040 opened. :|

Odd..you should have gotten a Status: Could Not Connect, or 'Successfully Connected' message...

The router should be passing 4040, so long as the service is running, and the edits in router configuration are intact. It wouldn't hurt to double-check your server's (Windows) firewall, too...installation of Subsonic typically opens the default port 4040 in the server firewall, but things may have changed. It very well could be a ISP issue, too..and may take their intervention to open 4040...hopefully they are server-friendly. AG had a NAT-traversal element that negated doing this manually, fwiw.

Just wanted to thank you guys for tips that helped me with my similar sounding issue. Through your tips, I was able to find the utility to test whether or not my ports were externally accessible. They were not. Also, your tips indirectly lead me to a free Static IP setting app from the PortForward site. That app gave me an important clue. I first reset my server computer to dynamic address (instead of static) then tried to reset to Static and the app found an error. Somehow, all my addresses were locked up and unavailable. Obviously, something was haywire in my router in control of available addresses despite all the settings looking correct.

I reset my router to factory defaults (a popular LInksys WRT54G). Then I used the Static IP setup tool to reset my Subsonic Server computer's static IP (the app is a nice time saver). Right away, I found I had originally incorrectly set the static IP on my server to be within the range of the addresses set by the router. The new static IP was fine and now outside the range of DHCP set addresses. Finally, I went into the router to open the port for Subsonic to the new static IP for the computer running the Subsonic Server. Re-ran the Open Port Check Tool and, voila, now it looks like my server can be seen through the router. Tomorrow, I will test from outside my LAN to insure complete success but I am pretty confident now. Thanks again for the tips, guys.

No - the ISP isn't going to set this up. This is something you have to do. As the previous poster illustrates, and has been shown hundreds of times previously, the problem is in setting up the router to forward the port to the server properly 99% of the time. Router setups can be a bit confusing if you're not used to the interface and no two routers are the same. We can call up the manual for your router and try to help walk you through it, but the bottom line is that you'll never get to Subsonic from outside your network until you get the forwarding rule set up properly in the router and can see the port as opem from canyouseeme.org. Page 57 of the manual describes how to set up port forwarding for a single port. As I look at the page I can't tell you how this particular entry should go to get it working right. You only need to forward http to get started. So you need to forward 4040 to the internal ip of your server. Here's where it gets tricky - it shows "External port" and "Internal Port" entry fields. When you send the request from outside it will be requesting to connect to 4040 - but that doesn't mean that the request is coming in from outside on that port. It sometimes helps to see other examples on the router of ports that are already open to see what needs to go where. The external port should probably be left blank or be "Any" and the internal port should be 4040. Don't get confused and put in port 80 anywhere. Only try getting http up first - if you get that right, then go for the SSL setup if you want. If you can edit the application name - put in Subsonic so you can id it easily when you're in the router admin pages. It's hard to know exactly how to get all this exactly right without actually having access to the same router, but this is the core of your problem and it's usually not understanding the grid on the right side of page 57 that is the source of the problem. If you have Skype or any other app that has already set up a forward rule you should be able to look at it and see what needs to be done.

CAREFULLY read the tutorial a few times through to be sure you understand what is needed.

Read the first two posts a few times to make sure you have a good overview and then take it step by step slowly making sure that you get it right at eack step. If something doesn't work as described in the tutorial post where you're having the issue before ploughing ahead. Each step is important.
