I really like the idea of being able to show a custom subset of the directory structure per user. So if I regularly play the same artists and albums of a collection it is more convenient to build up a directory list of those than adding them to a big long playlist and scrolling through it. A new "user/favourites" drop down folder could be used to easily show what has been added. Maybe simplify it and just allow favourite artists (i.e. the top level dir)? And maybe users can change the settings so that they can add other user's favourite sub collections so that they are also included in their tree view? Again much easier to manage and browse than using playlists IMHO.

+1 for the idea

The features I would like:

  • One single favorite "star" next to each song
  • A dropdown menu where you can select which favorites you want to see ( only yours, the ones of a specific user, or all)
  • In Artist / Album view a number which shows how many rated songs the album / artist contains
  • A backup feature (automatically) just in case sth. goes wrong

I would love to see a 1-3 or 1-5 rating system for individual tracks. It would be even better if this rating system was then incorporated into the subsonic supported apps like isub. a rating scale lets me mark a one star for tracks to delete (or entire albums if all the tracks are one star), two stars for stuff that I like but don't love, and three stars... for stuff that are my favorites to to play for friends etc...

the star or no star rating on individual songs lacks a 'bomb' rating so that i can remember to delete songs when I get home.

frankly, I could care less if the ratings were user specific at this time.

the capability to delete tracks/albums through subsonic would also be great.

Was wondering if this was still on the radar?

What I'm after is a quick "favorite" button on the Now Playing screen that if hit, it will send a message to the server to add a tag to the file, or to keep it in some sort of database.

I have about 5TB of music that runs on shuffle in the car and at times I'd like to mark a song as something I'd like to listen to again in the near future....

So basically you want to star songs ;)

Hence why I asked, "Is this the same thing"? :)

Err, not that it overly matters, but why quote something that is clearly not part of what you just said :?

But yes starring appears to be what he was talking about at the beginning. The official subsonic app does not support starring from your phone, but DSub and several of the offshoots which stay truer to the original Subsonic app do.

Srsly?!? Why the heck would anyone use it?

[edit]: On a related note, I've noticed the whole star concept seems to be incompletely implemented in the web interface...you can get a list of starred tracks but not do anything useful like, say, play them. I end up creating a playlist of starred tracks using dsub that I can then load in the web interface...
