Subsonic Android on Jelly Bean

Postby bluetooth » Thu Feb 28, 2013 2:46 pm

Now that my phone has upgraded to Jelly Bean, my video streaming from the otherwise fantastic Subsonic Android app is broken.

Does anyone know what the plans are to support video? What are other folks doing to watch video?
Thanks
Cliff.

I use the Dsub app on all my Android devices using JB, and this prompts for a default video playback app, such as MX player, rather than the standard app which requests a flash-enabled browser, hence all video playback is fine on my JB devices.

Try it

Cheap is never as good as free. But $2.00 is hardly a financial hardship. I've just downloaded it. Thanks for the recommendation, I appreciate it.

You say you are using the MX Player. Can I hope (assume) this player will also support dlna/upnp so I can throw the video onto my TV?

No it doesn't do dlna/upnp. It's on the todo list but it is pretty far down there and won't be gotten to for quite a while as there are other more pressing issues to be taken care of.

Thanks Daneren,
Okay, I've got DSub and MX Player installed. When I select a movie and then select 'Stream to an External Player' and pick MX Player, nothing happens. The circle graphic is spinning, but the video never starts playing.

Any suggestions?

I'm no expert but I think the default video transcoding is for flash so you need to set up a non flash transcoding. You need to read this thread:

Thanks Mr_Nobody. I had no idea there was an html5 version of the jwplayer.

There are also some transcodings that people got to work for them in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=11173. Unfortunately ffmpeg is difficult to get working so good luck until I can get the true video streaming working like iSub has.

This is kind of humorous, in a sad way. Flash doesn't work on JB, hence the 'official' subsonic android app won't stream video.
A suggestion is made for dSub, because it works with an external player so that will work.

Now that I'm here, "the transcoding configurations are really difficult, good luck with that".

So the question is, does dSub do video streaming with subsonic? Daneren, do you have this working? Could you share the settings with me so I can plug them in? Thanks in advance.

It sort of works. It works for me but the way it is setup right now you have to change the transcoding string. Like I said, there are a bunch of examples that worked in that thread I linked to. If one of those doesn't work for you though there isn't much I can do to help you and you will need to figure it out yourself. Also if you do get it working a different way add yours as well so that others can use it in the future.

Also, if all you want is to get video working, you can use flash on JB, it's just not officially supported. There are about a gazillion threads on the internet explaining how to do this.

If you have Mxplayer and Dsub installed, just install the Adobe Flash APK and the Adobe AIR apk, both freely available on the Adobe website, no configuration necessary, and this will also flash-enable the default JB browser, its just looks much better in MX player - either way the stream is flash...

Ah. Chrome isn't the embedded browser on my JB devices!
