I'm not quite sure what the problem is. After reading the above posts I went on my Windows 8 test box, opened Subsonic in IE 10, then created a shortcut on the Start Menu. Clicking on the tile opened to my Subsonic site and logged me in without any problems.

To create the shortcut just click on the Tools menu and select Add to Start Menu.

I ran into this last night while playing around. It's because IE10 isn't accepting the cookie from SS. You have to turn on access to the site. I'm looking at this further. If you're trying to access internally you have to turn on access which allows IE to accept the cookie. This is because of recent security and privacy updates in IE10, it's nothing that is likely to be fixed on the program side.

When you click on the tile it should go to a White screen with blue letters that says Private network access is off for this site, then a black bar at the bottom should pop up with a button on the bottom right "Turn on access". Once you click on that you should get to the logon screen. This is when accessing internally, I'm still looking at how to go about it from outside the network.

EDIT: I've tried to use my vanity name a few times and it just dumps me to a bing search. On one of my other sites I first went to the internal address, accepted the cookie there, then I was able to connect from the vanity address. Another classic MS puzzle.

Who's behind this Windows 8 Tile thing? Is is open source, is there an author or a forum where to post questions? I'll admit that I have left out some attributes in the new methods in the REST API, such as when an artist was created. I can't tell from the docs if it's mandatory or not, so the easiest thing (well, for me) would be asking that dev what's going wrong.

Hakko,

This is an IE10 browser issue. It's a behavior on Windows 8 and IE10 in full app mode that is a security issue on Win 8 in full tile app mode. Microsoft is the author.

I've managed to get it working on my desktop, but I'm still not certain of how to make sure it works consistently for other users.

Further testing indicates that I can't use the vanity address inside my network any longer on IE10. It apparently is killing the loopback for some reason. I can use vanity addresses OK for all external sites, but I have to use internal addressing and accept the cookie manually when trying to get to one of the sites inside my network. I'm sure that this is what the OP is running into and we're likely to see more of it as Win 8 use expands.

EDIT: Go figure - this is only an issue when using the IE 10 tile, full screen Win 8 app. If I go to the desktop on the same machine and use the desktop IE everything works as it would on Win 7. I can use the vanity name for the internal site and get there no problem.

Go Microsoft!

This is all part of Win 8 growing pains - just a new set of problems to solve ...

.. but it somehow uses the REST interface, which to me indicates that this is written particularly for Subsonic? It's not only an IE browser on Win 8 accessing a Subsonic server? I'm not a Windows guy, excuse me but I don't know how these things work. :)

I can connect to my Music Cab install without errors. The only issue I have is the behavior described above where the full screen IE 10 opened from the Start screen won't process the vanity addresses properly, but bounce you out to a Bing search.

I'm not getting any REST errors.

Using:

Version Subsonic, originally written by Sindre Mehus. Built with MusicCabinet plugin, version 0.7.22b, on March 11, 2013.
Server Apache Tomcat/7.0.37, java 1.7.0_17, Windows Server 2008 R2 (67.8 MB / 75.1 MB)

That's possible. I just assumed that as unlikely as there aren't too many out there and he never clarified what platform he's on. There could also be anomalies on Win 8 RT that may be different from my Win 8 desktop test bed.

That and the fact that I started running into the browser issues I've just described.

I'm not sure what the cure would be on the Phone or RT versions, but I suspect it's related to what I'm seeing.

That's what I'd assume. And then I'd like to ask some questions to that dev..
