Subsonic 4.9 released

Just upgraded from 4.7 to 4.9. Loving the new UI!

One problem I'm having though is I am unable to stream FLAC through the web player (this worked in 4.7). MP3 files play fine, and both FLAC+MP3 play fine through iSub

I am using a compiled version of ffmpeg and the WAR archive on FreeBSD. ffmpeg hasn't changed since I was on 4.7.

Not sure where to start but there is nothing helpful in the logs either. Will keep fiddling with it!

Installed 4.9 final over my existing 4.8 installation and even though the subsonic server appears to be running, the web interface does not exist.

I end up seeing what's below... any thoughts?

*edit* After rebooting and installing over the top a couple more times, the interface appears to have shown it's face... no clue what happened before.

Can't seem to get to install. Running 4.9beta, PC.

I've quit, rebooted, run as administrator, and rebooted again: Every time I run the installer, it gets to the first two commands and then just stalls. I let it sit there for an hour and still nothing.

What else can I try?

I thought I had read that the directory sorting issue was solved, but in 4.9 final, I'm still seeing the bug introduced in 4.7 (I think that's when it was) where directories just seem to get randomly sorted.. or they're sorted by some arbitrary creation date... not sure...

I need a way to sort the directories in alphabetical order. This is a surprisingly annoying bug. I've searched around and can't seem to find anyone that's successfully found a work around... unchecking "sort by date" doesn't appear to do anything.

Hmm, finally got the install to work: I had previously tried stopping Subsonic service prior to upgrading. I thought that was the way I always did it. After four or five installations that simply stalled, I tried installing with Subsonic running and that worked the first time.

Anyway, weird, minor bug: On the Log In message, any text [in brackets] simply does not appear (or the brackets themselves).
I use these to add the year to new additions, of course I can use parentheses or commas or something, but thought I'd mention it.

I just get a 0 byte .jpg file. As i cant choose a URL manually (get the same error) i think my problem is something else.

Got my files on a NAS that's mounted with a user that have r/w permissions.
The service is running with another user called tomcat7.

Is it maybe a bug in the new version?
When i download a cover i get java.io.FileNotFoundException: /mnt/****/cover.png (Permission denied)

When i look at the permissions for cover.png it has read only permissions. I should have read/write?

Tried to look in WEB-INT/jsp/changeCoverArt.jsp to maybe see how it create the file but didnt find anything.
Had the same problem with Beta3. Made a new installation with tomcat7 and beta3 then, now i upgraded and thought i would help.

Any tips?

I'm having cover album art issues. Cover art is downloaded just fine and "cover.jpg" is created in the album directory, but the actual cover never shows up when browsing the collection. Instead all I have are these "fake" covers which have artist/album in some text box.

edit: figured it out. Subsonic has the browser cache those "fake" covers and the cached images override whatever is downloaded. Once I emptied my browser's cache, the proper album art was displayed. Unfortunately, whenever one downloads album art it seems one must empty their cache for it to take effect. Might be worth looking into an alternative to this.

WOW! What a difference. My playlists load and play immediately!!! The site looks clean and performs like a dream. With nearly a quarter million mp3's, no more lag, just music!

I just updated 4.9. When I click the button to play a song, all following tracks are added to the playlist.
How play just one ?

Agreed. Sindre, can you please add this as a toggle-able option in the settings in the next version? I really dislike this "feature" too.

Downloading cover art is a great new feature! But I also vote for somekind of fix for the browser cache issue. New cover art is not displayed unless I empty browser cache.

I also don't like the way play button now works. Previous functionality is better.

I had this issue too. Install, no web UI. Reboot and install again, no web UI. Install again, web UI works. Most odd.
Glad to have this update though. Thanks for your work Sindre!

Hi,

I upgrade from 4.8 to 4.9 sucessfully and i try the new DLNA Feature but it will not work.

Following precondition:

- migrate subsonic 4.8 to 4.9
- set https port

Everything now is fine but when i try to open a file via dlna (e.g. with foobar) i get the following error:

Unable to open item for playback (Security error):
"https://xxx.xxx.x.xx:xx/stream?id=30829&player=45"

The server side seems to be ok:

It seems, that the certifcate is not accepted for streaming. I try this alos on android with "MediaHouse". No success.

But after this bug report, i want to say BIG THX for this piece of software!!! Also an "Hello" from my first post.

Thanks for continuing to update and support Subsonic! I just upgraded from 4.8 to 4.9 on my Windows 8.1 machine with no issues. Upgraded right over my previous version.

We love SS and use it hour upon hour daily! Keep up the good work!
