I tried Audiophone yesterday and it's truly awful. For $5 I'd expect much more.

-No ability to cache albums over wifi
-No ability to browse by folder (rather than tags)

I also tried subhub, the free one. Crashes every time. The other paid apps don't seem to have been update for like a year So it comes down to iSub saving the day, or I'm afraid Subsonic can no longer be my music server

Seems Apple has other priorities than we have.

Those other companies probably pay to get their apps approved quicker.

This is getting to be ridiculous. iOS 8 has been out for a week and it's impossible to use subsonic on my iPhone unless I have a stable wifi connection.

Has anyone found an alternative solution.

+1 for this. If we even see iSub updated, it'll look like complete garbage just like every other app not re-designed with higher resolution textures/graphics.

Thank you in advance for everyone who's helping support the iOS8 update. Myself and many friends are 100% dead in the water :(

Also, Audiophone is so horrible. Do not buy that app. I want my money back. How the heck can they remove folder view? Terrrrrible.

Yup the lack of folder view and no wifi cache.
I've had to resort to using other apps, ones that allow be to cache music from my dropbox and box accounts. But this is obviously not a long term solution.

Subsonic will lose its iOS users if a solution isn't found. And I'm certainly not switching to Android.

Is anyone in touch with Ben Baron, the iSub developer? I helped him beta test the app about a year or so ago when there were some complicated bugs. But he doesn't answer my emails now.

Not a happy camper.

You guys think you could read just one page back in this thread before bitching?

The developer himself posted that he submitted the iOS8 compatibility fixes to the app store, as reported on the previous page.

"#iSub iOS 8 compatibility update has been submitted. In the meantime if you're a dev and running GM, you can build from the GitHub repo."

I think we have the right to bitch. This wasn't a free product, like Audiogalaxy. And moreover, we pay at both ends: the Subsonic server and the iSub client.
I was fortunate to get the lifetime Subsonic license, but I imagine that people paying the monthly membership and using iOS 8 are pretty upset because they are paying daily for a product they can't use.

Let me clear I am not complaining about Subsonic and the developer of the server app. It's just unfortunate that he himself doesn't offer an official authorized client (as many other streaming type apps do), and it would be nice if he did exert some quality control, so faithful users don't end up wasting five bucks on crapware like Audiophone. I'd love to see the Subsonic admin endorse what he considers to be a worthwhile client.

And having been an iPhone user for 3 years now, I've got a sense as to how these updates work. Two weeks for a finished update is far too long for it to be in the queue for approval.

iSub's developer has for all intents and purposes abandoned his product. The emails that are sent when the appes crash don't get responses anymore. He's taken the forums down on iSub's official website. Yet the app is still being sold in the Apple Store. I think it's a bit inappropriate to sell an app that doesn't work whatsoever with Apple's current OS.

But he owes us nothing; we didn't enter into a lifetime contract with him when we purchased the app. Again, I just feel a bit slighted because I helped him with some beta testing last year. I played a not insignificant role in debugging a major caching issue the app had for a period of time.

On the other hand maybe it's Apple's intention (and Verizon's and ATT, etc) to see products like this fail. Streaming from home eliminates the need to purchase cloud packages; having an app with wifi cache helps people avoid going over their data caps. But I'm not into conspiracy theories.

I too feel like I just got ripped off! After I just got my iphone 6 upgrade I searched to find at the very least an "iSubstitute" until things clear up here or move on. I settled for a free app called Tonido. It has most of the features of iSub, including the ability to run on iOS 8. It also can use https, it can do transcoding too. (Just need to update the transcode executables as they are pretty old.) It also allows for file downloads, uploads and much more. Server side sets up in a couple mins. Phone app is just as easy to setup and free. http://www.tonido.com/tonidodesktop_downloads/ Hope this helps other fellow isub users get thru this rough time.

Thanks Apple for making this harder than it has to be!

Tonido's OK, but caching albums is a pain, because you have to cache them as files. And they dump them all in the sam folder.

A significantly better app is Younity. http://getyounity.com/
Same idea, but more user friendly.

And for caching albums from Dropbox, Box, and the other cloud service, Eddy is an app that works quite well. Just a pain cause you gotta drop the albums into Drobox first, then grab them. But you can then delete them from Dropbox.

Both these apps allow for folder browsing and wifi caching, my favorite features of iSub.

And since I bought the 128gb iPhone, I'm loading music onto it the old fashioned way. It's a pain and the iPod client only allows for tag browsing, which sucks.

I managed to get mine working with the updated code he posted in GitHub. It's been working fine for a couple of days. If anyone is interested I can walk you through it, although it can be a pain in the ass. The much easier solution for the time being is me adding you guys as beta tester in the iOS development portal and repackaging the app for you to download from http://www.diawi.com/. This process is fairly simple but be aware I WILL need your UDID to add to the iOS development site if you're interested. So if you're not comfortable forking that over to a complete stranger then you're out of luck and will have to deal with Xcode.

I bought also the Eddy - which seems to be OK for music files. First of all, because Microsoft OneDrive gives us 30GB free space if activating the PictureUpload on the phone
When playing audio books it's a pain in the ass because it forgets where you left (at least if you want to continue on the next day and the app already unloaded)...bloody hell!

Many thanks for pointing out that this Audiophile is trash - I was close to waste also money on that.

An alternative app is "StreamToMe" - which is designed to stream videos to the iPhone, but it streams also MP3s very well. Disadvantage is the lack of cache...

OK so the bottom line is that the iOS 8 update does work, and the only thing holding it up is Apple's approval?

Thanks for the help offer. I'm trying to remain optimistic that this will be solved this week.

And yes Eddy, Younity, and many of these apps lose your place in the songs. In fact the playlist ends up empty in many instances when you close the app.

Eddy would in fact be an ideal solution if it allowed you to connect to local and remote servers, along with the various cloud storage services.

The problem with Younity and Tonido and apps such as these as they are trying to be everything apps. Music is just one aspect of what they claim to do. Tonido is terrific for movinf files around from devices. But falls short on the music.

Yes that's correct, at this point it seems like the Apple Store is holding things up.

Don't we know someone @ Apple to get this approved?!? I'm dying without music on my 1.5 hr commute!

I've been getting by with Audiophone, but I really, really, loathe that application. It needs to be removed and/or add in simple folder view.
