Sonos owners wanted for beta testing

Postby sindre_mehus » Sun Jan 25, 2015 8:13 pm

For the last few weeks I have implemented Sonos integration in Subsonic. This means that your Subsonic server can act as a music service in Sonos, on par with Spotify, Google Play etc.

I have a Sonos Play:1 and Connect myself and it works like a charm :) However, I would like to do a beta test with a smaller group of users before making it generally available on subsonic.org

So if you're interested in participating, please reply to this post. Please include what Sonos equipment you have and on which OS you're running Subsonic.

(Note: The Subsonic server is required to be on the same local network as the Sonos controllers)

Thanks in advance!

Sindre:

I am definitely interested in taking part. I am running Subsonic on WHS2011 and have a Sonos bridge, two Connect amps, and a Play:3

I would be interested in testing for Sonos. I have the Sonos bridge, and 2 Play:5. I have Subsonic running on Ubuntu 14.04 using Tomcat 7.

Is this mainly for people that would use it outside of their home network? If not, what are advantages vs just pointing it at the local directories like usual? It's neat either way..Just curious

I'm using Sonos and Subsonic @ my office and can be used as a guinea pig if needed.

Thanks for volunteering! Please find installers here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/subson ... onos-beta/

To get started, open Settings > Sonos.

I would help out with some testing. I currently use the .war installation using Tomcat7 and Ubuntu 14.04 and have a PLAYBAR, a few Play:1s, and a Play:3.

I guess the main advantages are:

o You don't need to install and run the Sonos controller app.
o You get access to your personal Subsonic playlists.
o You can star/unstar your favorites
o You get the exact same folder structure / album art / media meta data as in the Subsonic web app
o You get the same album lists as in Subsonic
o The Subsonic web app will show who is playing what on Sonos in "Now playing"
o Audioscrobbling and play statistics works

I just installed the windows version, and so far everything is running great. Got some strange search results when searching for a-ha?

And last.fm submissions does not seem to work.

Can I play directly to my Sonos system from within SubSonic, if I can how do i choose which Sonos to play to?

Just got home and deployed the new .war. The Sonos service showed up immediately under the Add Music Services. I chose Add account and then "I already have an account" and tried logging in with my usual credentials and it didn't work. I got an Account Not Found message.

Then I realized even though the server is on my home network I was accessing it through my external hostname. After I logged in using the direct IP and clicked save again, it suddenly started working. I'm assuming that something in the code is reading the current URL rather than grabbing the local IP address? Just something to maybe add to the instructions.

This new Sonos feature is working great. I still have some more testing to do, but so far so good. This is working much better than the other app I was using to bypass the Sonos library size limit.

Keep up the good work Sindre!

Do you still have the subsonic.log from when this happened? If so, could you please send it to me?

Thanks!

YES! Thank you so much for this, Sindre! I've been praying for direct Subsonic to Sonos compatibility for years! I'll be testing it out this weekend.

Subsonic on Win7 64
1x Bridge
1x Play:Bar
1x Play:5
2x Play:1
