Postby Uffen90 » Sun May 17, 2015 7:44 am

Hi there, i hope someone can help and answer my questions.
1; is it possible to stream music to my phone without having my pc on all the time?
2; since i don't want my pc on all the time, and i have a nas that's able to run subsonic, how do i set it up? I can't figure out how to connect subsonic to my nas, get it to see the client on my nas?

Hi,

1) Yes it is possible, but I would not necessarily say easy. I did it over a year ago and the steps I took are fuzzy.

2) I have a Synology DS412+ NAS, and was able to get subsonic to run on it following instructions posted on the Synology forum. Here is a post I found upon searching for Subsonic on the Synology forum:

http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic ... ic#p369664

I don't know what NAS you have, but I did notice you use iPhone. There is a subsonic app for iPhone called iSub. If you are able to access your NAS outside your network, then you should be able to use iSub to connect to your music using the same url. You will have to open and forward either port 4040 (http) or port 4041 (https) to the NAS. The URL you will use in iSub will be http://[YourDomain]:4040, or https://[YourDomain]:4041

There is a reference to PC Loadletter blog in this post. That's the instructions I used.

Hello @ uffen90 (German?),
I'm busy with the same topic. I use no ready NAS, my run with NAS4free. Nevertheless ... the problems are similar. It is quite possible to install subsonic directly on the NAS ... but in my case I´ve to change my hardware firewall. And maybe that's a point you have to think too. Not only in your router, also in your firewall ...

That´s the reason why I try it first to proceed with a virtual Machine. I heard this should be a good option....

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry for the long response time.
I should have mentioned my that my nas is a readynas 316, sorry for that.
It works for me now.
Isub is the only way for me to use it on my phone.
It's fine as long as i just shuffle the music, but when i chose folders, it completly mess up the folders, the music is not in the right folders, ie, Acdc will be under guns n roses and so on.
To fix that i think i need an update for the subsonic application that's installed on my nas, and i have found one, but it just uninstalles subsonic from my nas, and i have to go through the setup process all over again.

Hello.
(Nope, nickname i got a long time ago. Danish though)
But back to the subsonic.
I'm using my readynas 316 to run subsonic, and i have it running now, and i'm able to listen to music outside my home, via the isub app.
Here's the catch though, it works fine when i use shuffle play, but it totally mess up my folders, ie, acdc music is under guns n roses and so on.
To fix that i think i need another app to play from, but i can't get another app to play or connect, since i use a way to old subsonic on my nas, and i'm not able to update it, without it completly removing subsonic from my nas, and i have to install it all over again, and therefore beeing back to square one.
