[Banana Pi] Subsonic clients terribly slow

Hello Folks,

So I've installed Subsonic on my Banana Pi Pro after getting fed up with the way Ampache deals with tags (my whole library was split into thousands of albums each of which contained 2-3 songs).
My first impression after installing Subsonic? I love it! The interface is great, all my songs are neatly confined into per-folder albums, just what I wanted.

But there's this one thing which is driving me nuts - android client network performance. I am using DSub as I consider it the best client out there, but I've tried official client as well as couple other ones (Tomahawk, XenoAmp), the problem seems to exist in each of them. Listing an album takes unbelievable 15-30 seconds if not accompanied by 'Network error occurred. Retrying 1 of 4 (usually catches up with 3rd attempt), then it usually takes above a minute. In such circumstances Subsonic is unusable and I am wondering what could be the problem as network interface works perfectly without any noticeable hiccups. Also, the server seems to randomly go off at times (web interface remains unreachable for some time) and then get up again. Last time I tried changing port I ended up having to reinstall Subsonic completely as I couldn't get through to it.

I'm hosting it on Raspbian along openmediavault, I'm no linux expert so I'd ask for your patience in case I require some explanation on how to check certain things. I'll be grateful for every bit of assistance offered.

I have Subsonic installed in a raspberry pi with raspbian and never have major problems everything runs smooth.

If you want try a fresh install of the subsonic.

Firs install java7 with the following command

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-jdk

Then, follow this instructions (except the part of installing java)

Thanks for your reply, I forgot to mention that I've installed subsonic as an omv plugin. Since I'm using my Banana as a NAS I thought it would be more convenient and on the other hand I was also worried that standalone installation could break omv configuration (although I guess it shouldn't since it has nothing to do with nginx on which omv operates). Banana has a static IP address and is exposed to the internet as I'm accessing it remotely on a regular basis.

What I've noticed last night is that Subsonic is pretty unstable, it acts as if network was flapping for it. One minute I can access my library just fine and it is relatively quick, the other it goes down and I receive the very annoying 'Network error occured...' . At the same time all other services remain reachable. I suspect it is related to port because when i tried executing netstat -an | grep 4040 at the time it was down, the port wasn't listening. Also, after attempting to change the port to something else, Subsonic became unreachable even though the service was running.

I'd be more than happy to attempt a standalone installation, although I'm worried that it might break omv configuration. Did any of you install Subsonic along omv as a standalone app?

What is Banana Pi? I've just read that is a microcomputer. How does it work?
