Status of Perisonic (Is it me?)

Postby cortellequeso » Sun Nov 10, 2019 3:18 pm

Hello- I hadn't tried using Perisonic (found at http://www.subsonic.org/pages/apps.jsp) in a while (years) and it doesn't seem to be working anymore. At least not for me. The site loads, I can access the settings panel and enter my subsonic credentials and hit OK. But it always times out/network errors and I never get my music loaded.

Anyone know anything about the current state of Perisonic?

Thanks.

With Chrome Apps being deprecated (unless you'd already installed it, it can't be installed on anything other than a Chromebook...and even then, it isn't the preferred app deployment system anymore now that Progressive Web Apps are the standard), I'm not surprised it hasn't seen any attention of late. I'm not sure if it isn't working because of a broken Chrome API no longer supported, or a broken API in more recent Subsonic servers.

In fact (just tried to get it), I can't even install it on my chromebook anymore, which leads me to think there's a broken Chrome API that it is hitting.

Is this really a feature people want - just turn it on and shuffle everything and start playing? I could add that to SubFire (maybe with a little ability to filter by music folder). I don't use that feature because I have too much variety on my box - having Pink Floyd be followed by Sesame Street is not quite how I want to spend my afternoon listening. :)

Thanks for the reply and the information. I had it installed from years ago, and even that instance won't properly function.

I loved the discovery factor Perisonic offered. I have the music I *don't* want to hear with Pink Floyd et al., in a seperate directory structure. But I do have about 175k songs in a main directory that I want to have 'gonzo' shuffle. I know I can do that with the subsonic web app, but I like the single album cover interface (minimalist) that Perisonic offered, and the no peaking at the upcoming tracks or any way to 'interfere' like on full blown music players/apps, you just had to wait to see what was next.

I'm not looking for a way to shuffle all my tracks or all the tracks in a folder, I got that. I want the "put this on, and you can't mess with it, you just have to listen" factor. Otherwise, I start messing with the upcoming tracks EVERY TIME! lol

I'll check out SubFire, not familiar with it. (yet)

Thank you.

SubFire TV may be the closest to what you want in terms of simplicity. Just playlists, radio (a special subfire feature, one can create playlist rules that can regenerate on the fly), podcasts, and in the main page just click to shuffle your music and off it goes. No way to see the song queue (on the todo list but haven't gotten to it yet).

https://subfiresuite.com/SubFire2TV for the links and screenshots (full PWA for secure servers, or just the http version if your server is only http as well - in either case you can save a shortcut or "install" it as an app on

That said, I'll think about making a very simplified player close to Perisonic in the near future, just to get my coding fingers working again.

Ok, still a work in progress, but functional, is a new SubFire-Quick Player. Clicking "Just Play Something" (after logged in) will start up a random shuffle of 100 songs.

Below that are options for picking songs from specific top-level folders, or from playlists, or from "radio stations" configured (you can look that page up in the SubFire section in the Apps sub-topic).

https://subfiresuite.com/q (the full PWA version, if you have a secure server)

with Chrome you should be able to add a short cut (http) or install the PWA (https) in order to get a single click button to use.
