Podcast Manager Similar to Subsonic

Postby burn913 » Tue Feb 01, 2022 4:08 pm

After many years as a loyal Subsonic subscriber, I'm looking to move off of it for fear that it'll just disappear one day.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a podcast manager similar to how Subsonic works with Podcasts? I absolutely love how Subsonic manages podcasts and have found no comparable alternative. The closest that I have found is castbox.fm, but that's a pretty weak service overall.

I love how each of my podcasts in Subsonic is segregated, new episodes are added to the top of of each podcast list automatically, and I can quickly create playlists.

One of the limitations might be that I want another browser-based podcast manager, but most nowadays seem focused on mobile.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you're looking for a very lateral move, consider Airsonic Advanced https://github.com/airsonic-advanced/airsonic-advanced - It is in active development with frequent snapshot updates https://github.com/airsonic-advanced/airsonic-advanced/releases . Same feature set as Subsonic (API, Sonos, etc.) with updated code. As it is open source, you also get all the features Subsonic Premium gives you, but for free. Minimal effort for installation (latest Java installed, then a command line shortcut to the war file - upgrades even easier with just a fast war file change). You will need you to come up with your own DDNS solution for external access and it supports running as a service with something like NSSM https://nssm.cc/, and IIS works great as a reverse proxy if you wish to run them as SSL.

Thanks but I'm looking to actually looking to separate my podcasting from my music. I'd like to be able to listen to my podcasts from outside my network without having to open my network to the internet by allowing remote Subsonic access or Airsonic or other similar services.

I found castbox.fm, which is ok, but Pocket Casts premium seems like the perfect alternative. It's only a few US dollars per year and offers basically the same functionality as Subsonic. So far I love it.
