Hi everyone,
I just released Z-Subsonic, an iPhone client for Subsonic server.

Well, it sure looks amazing! I don't have an iPhone yet to test it but I ordered one today.

I was actually on the brink of developing an iPhone app myself, but I woke up this morning to find out that one was already released and another one is in the loop. Nothing could make me happier - I know that a lot of people have waited a long time for this.

So congrats on what looks to be a great app, and good luck with selling it on App Store!

I'll of course add some advertisement for it on the subsonic.org pages.

Keep up the good work,

Any chance of getting a youtube video of it in action?

Hey thanks! I just downloaded this last night. It's not bad. It seems pretty stable although there are some things about it I would like to see improved in the future. The price tag is a little hefty for its lack of features (but hopefully that will be remedied ;) ). Having to exit the app to change the settings is kind of annoying. Also, I think the browsing of files is a good start but I wish there were more ways offered. Overall, I like it and am glad to finally have a way that I can listen to subsonic on my iphone. Thanks sola!

Thanks for the feedback. Version 1.2 (already submitted to Apple for review) moves the settings page into the application. Settings is now accessed by clicking the button with the gear sign in the upper right-hand corner of the screen:

There are other fixes as well.

The forum at http://z-subsonic.com should come alive within one week.

Had a chance to play around with this app.
Yes, the settings being separate was almost confusing at first. Glad to see that's being changed, but what it really needs is an initial page for 'accounts or 'profiles'. A page where you can store many different subsonic servers' information. I want to log into mine OR my friend's servers in one tap (after initial set up of course) like thie iphone email accounts work.

Another thing I noticed is that artist grouping isn't the same as the subsonic server. Many times there's duplicates..the same artist listed multiple times. Couldn't figure out why, since I only played with it for a few minutes.

Other than that everything's nice. I'm sure there are more features that are slated for the future (lyrics, chat, coverflow, etc). Looking forward to seeing what's next! Nice job.

Can you post a sample URL to show what you're entering into Z-Subsonic?

Z-Subsonic uses the REST API in Subsonic which was introduced in 3.8. So you need 3.8 or 3.9.

offline mode

Postby bombjack » Mon Mar 15, 2010 12:35 pm

Hi,
I have been using SimplifyMedia, which is basically the same thing, on my iPhone for over a year and now they are announcing that the service is about to end (or change anyway). Subsonic together with Z-subsonic is looking really promising as a substitute.

Now for my feature request:
I am using SimplifyMedia over the 3G network with a limited data plan. I would love if Z-subsonic could cache/store any song I listen to so that when I listen to the same song next time, I will listen to a local copy on the iPhone instead of downloading/streaming it again. With this feature I would drop Simplify for Z-subsonic instantly. doable?

Are our login passwords secure if we use a third-party app like z-Subsonic?

I can't believe it! I have been using SimplifyMedia for years. That really sucks. Oh well, good thing I have a subsonic server set up.

Just my opinion, but your price is outrageous. :(

I second that. $3-$4 I can understand but $10? If you were doing something other than accessing FREE APIs I could understand that. =/
