Vista Tray Icon

Postby TheKyle » Sun Jun 22, 2008 5:06 am

I just got subsonic up and running on my Windows Vista machine, and the only major problem I'm having now is that the tray icon won't show up.

Does anyone know of a fix for this? If there is no fix, then can this please be added as an update for the next version?

Thanks!

I'm having the same issue with Windows 2003. But I noticed that the tray icon appears when you run it from the "Start Subsonic" shortcut just fine...but when you run it directly from the Services interface, it launches the system, but no icon displays.

I suppose that would make sense since you're bypassing the GUI and just starting the service directly, but it just sucks because you no longer have access to the tray icon menu/window.

Hello,

Same problem for me, whatever the way I launch subsonic (shortcut or service)
I tried both versions 3.4 and 3.5 beta1.
I'm on Vista32 Premium + SP1 with UAC on. My account has admin rights.
Hope you'll find a fix soon

Bye

I also noticed this happens when you change the login credentials on the service. After doing that, no matter how you run it (service or shortcut) the tray icon never displays again.

Bumpidy Bump! It works fine on my computer as a service, but it's a pain in the arse changing the port w/o the icon.

I actually fixed this today. Well, at least I think I fixed it - I don't have a Vista machine to test it with. I'll release a new beta version soon, hopefully someone can verify that the tray icon works on Vista then.

Thanks,

Can't wait for the new beta! I'll be sure to test on my Win2003 PC as well.

3.5.beta2 was released yesterday. Can someone please let me know if the tray icon works in Vista now? (Note: Java 6 required)

Thanks a lot,

Still No Tray Icon w/ Beta 3.5.2

Postby ahrajani » Sun Sep 28, 2008 8:41 am

Beta 3.5.2
Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit
Java 6 Update 7

System process named subsonic.exe is running, but no tray icon appears in tasktray. Still no way to access any of the program settings. Please fix this soon -- I'm dying to try out the product.

Aargh... Well, you can change the settings by manually editing c:\Program Files\Subsonic\subsonic.exe.vmoptions

Thanks for the quick reply. I see I can manually edit subsonic.exe.vmoptions, but since it was a fresh install, the file only has three lines of text:

-Xmx64m
-Dsubsonic.port=80
-Dsubsonic.contextPath=/

If the file was already populated (for example I'm assuming eventually there would be code in there regarding usernames and various other settings), I could probably kind of find my way around backwards. But being a newbie, the tray icon is key for me.

I'll look around the forums. Thanks.

Hi,

All other settings are done from the web interface, http://localhost

BTW, can you double-check in the "Help" page, that Java 6 is used?

Thanks,

As a work-around I've added a new Start menu item "Subsonic > Settings" which displays the settings dialog.

Will be included in the upcoming 3.5 release.
