Last.fm Query for Suggestions on What to Play Next

Postby mlody11 » Sat May 01, 2010 1:34 am

I must say this is the fastest, most stable and flexible music player and I love its client-server infrastructure.

That said, I use media monkey sometimes because of a plug that queries last.fm for what is playing and from the results it does searches on its local library and either automatically adds or suggests what kind of music to play next.

This kind of feature would be marvelous especially when listening at work or at a party or simply a set and forget. Querying last.fm and perhaps returning suggestions below the lyrics bar on the right side and perhaps an option to automatically add X amount of songs from the suggestion to the current playlist.

This kind of feature would be much appreciated.

This would be great so it could make on the fly playlists from lastfm data.

It's an excellent idea, if you have a large music collection on your server. It might be hit and miss if the server had a small collection.

I by any means don't have a large collection in respect to numbers I've seen... (I have 5K songs) but it works pretty darn well in keeping to the current playing Genre.

I few things I would add to the one Mediamonkey uses would be items suchs as:
limit to an interval year (so only choose from 2008-2010 songs) and
better repeat protection so the song doesn't repeat numerous times (I would do this by using artist and title of the song as a ban filter and not by the unique song id)

Either way, I think this would truely be a huge benefit to subsonic

I was coming on to request a feature that would show artist recommendations but this would work as well. I have a lot of friends who say "I like X, what else would I like". It would be great if they could listen to something and there was a sidebar that showed recommendations in the local library based on what they were listening to. Or of course just an auto playlist based on this information.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, Image but some abuse the privilege!

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

Hey - This looks awesome!

I would like to start using this to try it out, but was wondering if anyone here as experience setting up postgres on an unraid machine? I currently use unraid for all file storage and my subsonic server. I have been poking around over at the unraid forum, as well as on google, but haven't found someone doing this.

Any suggestions?
