Amazing..

Sindre..

One word describes your Subsonic package...
"AWESOME!!!"

What an amazing piece of programming skill
you have displayed in Subsonic my friend..
Very impressive indeed..

I've set it up with ease..in less than 2 hours..
and it's rockin along nicely....not a single
problem that I've seen so far..

A few observations...and comments about it..

I would like to somehow have the option to
remove the adsense that are displayed on it..
that is somewhat annoying where it's placed
now.

Also..
The ability to edit the login page to place
a logo or banner to my website there..

My intention is to use Subsonic as a option for my
loyal listeners to have a On-Demand content stream
for those who may not wish to listen to the stations
live stream for any reason.

Another question I have is regarding public access
I know that I can set up any number of user logins
configured however I wish them to be...can the user
change the password once logged in?
(that could be a problem....maybe)

Those who would like to see it pls. feel free to PM me
for a VIP login credential....
I'd be happy to send you one..

Again...what a kick ass app..!!!!

Hi Rod,

Thanks for your kind feedback, and congratulations to you for the rockin' radio station!

Regarding the ads: The next version of Subsonic will most likely support disabling of ads for donators (i.e., if you give a donation you'll receive an unlock code).

The login page can be freely edited. It's located in TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/subsonic/WEB-INF/jsp/login.jsp

As for the password change: Yes, the user can change the password. However, if you're prepared to do a small modification to Subsonic, there is an easy way around it:

1. Locate the file TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/subsonic/WEB-INF/applicationContext-security.xml
2. Locate this text in the file:
Code: Select all
/generalSettings.view=ROLE_ADMIN
/userSettings.view=ROLE_ADMIN
/musicFolderSettings.view=ROLE_ADMIN
/internetRadioSettings.view=ROLE_ADMIN
/searchSettings.view=ROLE_ADMIN

3. Add the following line:
Code: Select all
/passwordSettings.view=ROLE_ADMIN

4. Restart Subsonic.

Now, only admin users are allowed to change passwords.

Hope this helps 8)

Thank you very much Sindre...for your kind words as well..
I did the edits that you described and perfect results !

I think this app will be perfect for the task..
once I make the final changes I'll PM you a link
so you can check it all over for me...if you would...

one last question that I discovered after my first post..

The help page..
/subsonic/help.view

it would be ideal to have a single page user guide display
for that instead of the default page that comes up now..
showing the server info and event log..

Would it be acceptable to edit that default help page to display
a user guide (FAQ) type of page.. ?
I mean I know I can...
I guess I'm just asking if you would mind if I altered it...?

and... if it's ok to do..
what code needs to remain on it... so it does not break anything..
(I'm assuming anything below the < body > tag can be removed and replaced with HTML...yes?)

Thanks again for your prompt reply :)

Rod,

Glad that it worked :-)

This is open source, so feel free to modify the help page (or any other page) to better suit your needs. I don't think it's likely that anything will break if you change it. (Obviously, the more changes you do, the more hassle you'll get if you upgrade later).

And yes, please send me the link when it's ready.

Cheers,
Sindre

Hi,

I'm posting here rather than a PM, since it may be of general interest.

You can in fact bypass the login dialog by using the following URL:

http://yourhost/subsonic/j_acegi_securi ... me=checked

This will auto-logon the given user ("guest" in this case). You may also consider to remove the "Log out xxx" option from the top frame (top.jsp).

Also, the user is in no way attached to the ip address, so you'll be fine with a single guest user.

Happy streaming,
Sindre

Thanks Sindre..
Did you get a chance to look at my config. of
Subsonic?
What are your impressions?

is there anything
you would add or do differently?

Thanks for the clairification on the guest
login thing as well.. that will make it simple
for visitors to get into my Subsonic.

Apologies if I keep hitting you with questions
but I think of them as I go along..
so I have 1 more if I may..

this is'nt really related to Subsonic...
I think we are all set with that now..
the real work begins now with updating
tags and covers...but there again..
you have made that much easier to do
with Subsonic.

My question now is regarding Tomcat...
knowing that you have a longer exposure to
Tomcat...
I was wondering if you knew of any sites
that have cool Tomcat add-ons such as
JSP templates or interesting WAR files
to enhance Tomcat or just add cool stuff to it.

Thanks again for your support in getting
my Subsonic ready to go...
It's an amazing app and you can be proud
of your accomplishment..

Hi,

I had a look around and I think it looks good :-)

As for other Java web applications, you might be interested in JForum (http://www.jforum.net/).

I would have to agree that this is a great app. Great Job.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to call a playlist from a single click using the method previously mentioned.
I am able to autologin as guest using the url method, but am not able to figure out if that method could be modified to end up taking the user directly into a playlist and play it, instead of just ending up at the general view screen.

Thanks Much!
:)

Have to agree with all the sentiments in the thread, this is an awesome program. I listen to a lot of music and this provides a perfect solution for me to listen to my library at home and on the go.

Thanks and keep it up!
