Subsonic 3.2.beta1 released

Postby sindre_mehus » Wed Sep 19, 2007 6:29 pm

I'm proud to announce the most exciting Subsonic release in a long time!

Subsonic 3.2.beta1 contains a lot of nice new features, including:

o Integrated Podcast receiver (a la iTunes).
o One-click Windows installer.
o Play music directly in the browser with the new integrated Flash-based player.
o See what others are playing in the new "Now playing" sidebar

and more...

Complete change log: http://subsonic.sourceforge.net/changelog.html
Download: http://subsonic.sourceforge.net/download.html

Enjoy,
Sindre

bug reporting?

Postby mw » Wed Sep 19, 2007 8:31 pm

Great to see the new features in 3.1!

I'm wondering where I should report bugs I'm seeing in beta releases.

The flash player doesn't seem to be showing up anywhere (the steam launches the external player like in previous versions).

I'm getting permission errors when trying to download podcasts (despite perms set to "everybody" in Windows XP):

java.lang.RuntimeException: Failed to create directory c:\music\Podcast\NPR: Car Talk

Just had a thought... maybe the podcast i'm trying to save is putting a colon (:) in the directory name, which isn't allowed in Windows, or maybe that's just part of the error reporting.

Thanks for your feedback :-)

The Flash player is highly "optional". To open it, add something to the playlist and click "Web player". (Sorry for not explaining this anywhere).

The error you mention is definitely due to the colon in the directory name. I'll fix that in the next release.

Thanks!

All I have to say is wow! That flash player works great! Also, it seems alot faster. Great Job.

1. I did notice that if i im using the web player, and then I select "Clear", it opens up Windows media Player. I don't think it should do this.

2. How can i rename the Web player link to Play? I did some customization that will only allow the flash player to be used, but I want to show the Web player link as Play.

3. Would it be possible to to add a feature that would allow us to hide a specfic Genre of music for a specific user? Or maybe base it upon a half star rating? There is some music that I don't want my nieces/nephews to be able to listen too.

Thanks,
Matthew.

Beta Observations

Please add a menu option that would load a playlist into the webplayer instead of the stream and that would fix the stream popping up the player everytime we change anything in the playlist. Also I'm not able to see the sidebar that shows what is playing at all. Is that an option to enable or what? Yes I agree the flash player is much faster and less problematic as I can't get xmms to stream correctly anymore on linux.

Hi again, and thanks for all your suggestions.

As you have noticed, the integration of the Flash-based player is not streamlined. Unfortunately, the player (http://musicplayer.sourceforge.net/) doesn't support dynamically changing playlists, so some features are hard to implement.

I hope to do some changes in later releases that will make it easier for people who prefer to use only the Flash player. I have to let it mature a bit first, though :-)

Cheers,
Sindre
