newbie to subsonic oldie at networking

i have port 50 fwd on my router works well i have a url assigned in sub sonic works well when on local network resolved to my IP address
outside teh network never connects

i have tried network settinsg automatically configure and it says port fwded to 50 ok great but still does not connect
i have disabled auto configuration and it says port fwd disabled yet i can still connect locally whats going on?
this should just work

Why are you using port 50 That is a predefined port (Remote Mail Checking Protocol)
Use a non-defined port eg 8080

sop still will not work when i fwd port 8080 2554 4731 ect i get timed out on multiple browsers if i use my URL or external ip and port listed ive stoped restarted the service still will not go any more ideas

subsonic saus the site reponse and auto port fwd is set still no go

so close to giving up on this hunk of crap

it simply does not work. i have ftp webservers plex all routing through my router but subsopnic is usless unless iam on my own network or vpn so it can get it.

iv reset to defaults control panel is port 4040 subsonic finds my router and says it fwd's port 4040 mu url is sucsefully registered yet it times out on every single attempt in every single browser.

Ive done maual port fwding same response. this form is useless as a help its just users saying her do this do that i see its had 38 views 1 reply useless! a few more attempts and i am done w subsonic

Do you have SSL turned on? If so, you need to forward both the SSL port and the HTTP port through your router.

does canyouseeme.org report that the port that you have chosen is open?

What happens when you attempt to use your custom subsonic.org name from the outside? Does a redirect to the proper ip address and port combination happen correctly?

yes can you see me sees port 4040 w a service attched to it
no i have not enabled ssl
when i attempt to connect outside home network
it does not attempt to resolve the address it will time out after approx 30 sec from ie - chrome to safari

So if you go to http://yourcustomname.subsonic.org it never redirects to http://<yourIPAddress>:<YourHTTPPort>/<YourContextPath>?

What if you skip the custom name and just try http://<yourIPAddress>:<YourHTTPPort>/<YourContextPath> from the outside?

Please PM me the custom name of your server and I will take a look and see what the redirect is doing. I don't need a login because it sounds like the problem is before you ever log in.

OK, I just tried and the redirect is working fine. But no connection to port 4040 from the outside.

This means that either your router is not properly configured to route TCP traffic for port 4040 to the correct internal IP address, or there is a firewall running on the subsonic server that is blocking the traffic.

What operating system is the Subsonic server running on? What type of router do you use?

well it may be done right now as i found a firmware upgrade for my router n it doesnt appear to have come back up

how is teh rediretc working did it resolve the address from yrou end?
i am running asus rtn66u router *dark knight* the "server" is win xp i have no firwall running on it as of right now
port 4040 is fwd'd within the router

The way that the Subsonic redirect works is that, when you start the Subsonic server up, it registers your external IP address, port number, and context path with the Subsonic.org servers. When you request your custom domain name, it responds with a "302 - Temporariliy Moved" message that includes your real address in the format of http://<YourIPAddress>:<YourPort>/<YourContextPath>

When I put your custom domain name into my web browser (chrome) it attempted to redirect to your external IP address and port and the browser gave up after 30 seconds or so with "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to <Your IP Address>:<Your Port>"

This tells me that the redirect is working but the traffic is not passing through your firewall.

I am running the same firewall, but have loaded TomatoUSB Firmware, so your screen will not look the same as mine, but here is my port forward page:


I am running Subsonic on ports 8080 and 8443 as you can see.

Is the port forwarding pointing to the correct internal IP address of the XP Machine?

my router did not come back up from the firware upgrade so will ghave to continue this evening but you stated running teh fire wall

I am not running a single fire wall on my home system. i disabled it when i encountered this issue to elimate that posibility.

my home server is running a static IP of 192.168.1.35

i have my router fwding ports 21 for my ftp and 4040
on my firwall i have excptiosn for subsonics ports

i will send screen shots

Sounds good. I will look at them tonight after Scouts or in the morning.

yup working fine and dandy

the router was to blame teh firm ware for what ever reason was blocking but yup it all works

but yiou seem to know what yer doing gona send you a pm
