Hey folks,

All subdomains (vanity records) that I try to use in my Subsonsic panel appear to be reporting from the authoritative nameservers (NS1.DOMAINDISCOVER.COM + NS2.DOMAINDISCOVER.COM) as 192.157.241.116.

I'm using the beta, about to revert to stable, but thought this was worth a mention.

The subsonic.org domain registration feature does not use authoritative DNS. Instead, each subdomain redirects the user to the registered IP address and port of their server. For this reason querying a DNS server for the subdomain you registered will not return the registered IP address of your server.

Would this be why, after my Comcast IP address expired and is now different, that all external references to http://<mydomain>.subsonic.org/ still references my old IP address?

Is there a way to update it to the current one, or should I just go with a DDNS service?

As ytechie pointed out, custom domains use redirection, not DNS entries. And, the redirection isn't particularly robust. My server sits behind a firewall, and has an RFC1918 address. For some reason, the redirection system thinks that can work:

I think that's different than how it used to behave, but I haven't tried using it for a long time. I run Subsonic with SSL on a custom port number (DNAT) and as I recall that's always been broken.

Yes - assuming you enabled the use of the Subsonic redirection.

Redirection has always been enabled. Everything (except for the android app) worked fine, then my ISP gave my router a new IP and I can't get subsonic.org to recognize that - it still tries to connect to my old IP. I did what you said, perhaps it takes several days for subsonic.org to get notified and updated?

It should refresh immediately. If you like I can help trouble shoot via PM if you send me your external ip and Subsonic port number along with your subsonic address.

You should also check the port forwarding and firewall settings and your internal ip address. If you internal address gets changed by DHCP then the port forwarding has to be changed as well.

You can also do the http://Canyouseeme.org port check as well to see if your connecting from outside.

Sent you a PM. I got it working by entering in my license code again (?) It showed Trial Expired. Anyway, it's working - for now. Canyouseeme.org can see me on 8080.

Thanks for your help! Somehow in the process of documenting the issues, I got it to kick free - wingo.subsonic.org now redirects to my new IP address.
