sadly, my old machine died on me

I can migrate all of the content/media to a new PC. But, how do I get the subonic servers to point to the new address?? I'd hate to have to set up all of my user logins and to lose my xxxxxxx.subsonic.org url on a dead machine!

Help me please...

Okay, revised (bigger) problem. My backup drive stored all of my media, with 0 program files. I DO NOT have access to the subsonic C:\Program Files\Subsonic files...only the thumbs (since they saved as media). I can live with setting up the usernames again. But is my subsonic url lost forever??!

Just reinstall SS and put your data in. You should be fine. I've recreated/moved the server several times without problems. I've also transferred the SS url to each of my 3 SS servers from time to time without any difficulty.

Thank you for the quick reply Gary. I'm not exactly sure how to switch the url. When I try to register it, it searches for my old machine, will will never turn on again as it's basically a paperweight now. How do I "recreate" the url...isn't it "taken" by me already and assigned to my phantom IP address?

I think I've got it; with a little network know-how and an easy setup from subsonic!

Looks like my only casualty is my database of settings, to include user logins, shortcuts and ratings. If anyone can help with finding those, I'm all ears...if not, I won't lose any sleep over it.

Can you read the hard drive from the crashed system?

That's a whole other can of worms, which is maybe not (or maybe is) suitable for the subsonic forum.

Put the drive into an USB/Firewire enclosure, connected to another PC running XP Pro...Nothing will recognize the drive (disk manager or defrag, my comp., etc...) except for the "safely remove USB Hardware" box.

I just don't know how to get to those darn files (if only once to copy). I only need the iTunes and subsonic database files which doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm sure all of the fellow music lovers on here can sympathize.

The only other test would be to connect the drive directly inside the computer to see if the drive is truly dead.

I know it's a bit late, but in the future, only back up the data that you don't want to lose. All hard drives die, it's just a matter of time. I've even got my backups backed up.
