And again after the update all my settings are lost...

This worries me a little bit? What should I do before I install future updates to avoid this?
Cheers,

Just a quick update wrt the sharing feature. First of all, thanks for the useful feedback.

I've implemented most of your suggestions:

o URLs no longer contains IDs of songs. They now look like this: http://foo.subsonic.org/share/jOyG
o Music will be streamed using a guest user, rather than the user than created the share.
o Added a management page "Settings > Shared media" where you can manage your shares and see some statistics (# visits, time of last vist).
o Currently you can only delete shares, but I'll also add expiration date.
o Admin users can manage all shares.
o Added full REST support for shares.

The checkboxes and combobox will probably stay there, as they will serve other purposes in later releases (e.g., add selected songs o a saved playlist). But I will look into making them less "visible".

Cheers,
Sindre

That is a bit odd. I haven't lost any setting updating my Windows based servers yet. The easy solution would be to make a copy of the C:\Subsonic folder before the update and to recopy it back after.

HTH

I do know that the account definition of the subsonic service has to be reset if you have UNC folders, but that's a pretty easy fix.

For simplicity. The public IP is generally not known to the Subsonic server (and it also cannot know if it's dynamic or not) - whereas the subsonic.org address is known, it supports dynamically changing IPs, and it works both within your lan and from the outside.

Thanks,
Sindre

Can't you make the domain be user-defined for people who handle their own DNS?

thats what i actually do (to make a backup of the subsonic folder)... but not everything can be saved this way. For example the user-accounts, player-settings, album-votes, the played-x-times counter and some other settings

Sindre,

You just killed my concerns. I quickly realized that if my handful of users started sharing everything it might bog things down, but if I have the ability to regulate the shares, that will be great! Thanks for all of the great work! That reminds me, I need to donate again!

Excellent features, thank you!

I was wondering though, whether it would be possible to offer a configuration option to either present shares via subsonic.org or (if it's available) the domain name registration that is pointing at my subsonic server's static public facing ip address.

I apologise if this seems like a duplication of an earlier question, I did read through the earlier posts in the thread, but could not see if anyone had mentioned or suggested making this a configurable option. I would love to use the share feature, but I'm really only interested in it if I can configure it to use my domain name and bypass subsonic.org, my guess is that it should be possible to make this function configurable? :)

If sharing is enabled the default setting could be point it at subsonic.org, but with a configurable option that allows an admin to specify his/her own domain instead? Just a thought.

Other than that, thank you for the awesome application, I absolutely appreciate Subsonic and its excellent features.

Many thanks.

Does anyone else NOT see the "Settings > Shared media" section mentioned in the beta update. I'm just not seeing it. I've got the ability to share and have even shared something. I have also got the ability to turn sharing on and off for users.

Thanks

GJ51,

Thanks for the reply. Must this be turned on for users other than an Admin in order for the "Shared Media" section to appear in 'Settings'? Because I have "User is allow to share..." turned on for myself and yet I see no where for me to administrate what has been shared.

That's really what I was trying to get at.

Sindre, this would be great. In reality, it's that those checkboxes are so large and so white. To help, I've done a mockup of what would really look 100x better, to the point that I'd have no issue if they were visible all the time.

In these two examples, Tracks 1, 2, and 4 are checked. The top one is how it currently looks in 4.5b1, and the bottom one is my take on how a more subtle checkbox effect would be a nice upgrade. Note that the square boxes themselves in my mockup are grey (like the Play/Playlist/Download checkboxes), with the "X" being a light blue for emphasis.

[EDIT] Light blue X's probably not even needed -- all-grey just like the other three boxes would probably be A-OK :-)

Hope this at least helps with some ideas, and cheers,

It just adds the share options once an album is selected int the upper window. Look at the screenshot above. Ratings stars, Clear rating redo arrow, facebook, twitter, Share

you don't see the fb, Twitter, or Share option when it's not activated for the user.
