SonicStreamer - New App for Windows 8.1 / 10

Postby The_Axelander » Fri Nov 28, 2014 7:52 am

Hey Guys,

I just want to introduce a new Subsonic App for Windows 8.1

SonicStreamer

SonicStreamer has actually the basic functionalities like Track Selection, Folder Browser, Search Function and Playlist Management. But this App is still in development so new features will be released in the future like PlayTo (Streaming to other devices) which is already implemented but actually deactivated due to some stability issue that I had in some testing scenarios.

At this time I’m working on the Windows Phone 8.1 App. So that means SonicStreamer will be the first Universal App for Windows (unless I'm mistaken). I hope I can finish this in the next days…

Afterwards I will re-work the User Interface for the upcoming OS Windows 10.

I would appreciate every feedback so that I can improve my App on the right places

I came here looking just for this, great to see someone breathing life into the apps. I left the Android one because no one could apparently get the SD card working right, and now I find on Windows Phone everything is out of date, not developed, and is essentially broken.

I installed your app here on Windows 8.1 and I found that it complains about the SSL trust. I'm not running an SSL (though it does run over secure ports), does your app have a way to forgo the check, or does it only support non-SSL connections without a public cert?

Really looking forward to your Windows Phone 8.1 app!

I tried to use it on my windows computer, but I can't:
I simply get a message that "Connection not posible: unable to connect to the remote server"

I tried with a normal user and also with admin

@heymrdj: Good question. Normally I use a SSL-connection with a public cert. I also tested non SSL connenction (using http://) which should work. Well, I will run some tests later this day. Which format did you use for the server address?

http://<server>:<port> or
https://<server>:<port>

@titooo: Did you enter at first http:// or https:// because without this prefix the connection will not work. I know bad design  but I will update this later

For your information: I've started to post some updates in development progress on my webpage: http://www.theaxelander.de

Indeed if you use a private cert for the secure connection then SonicStreamer will complains about the SSL trust. So let's see, maybe I will change this in a way that my app shows up a warning message instead blocking the whole connection.
But it can take some time that I provide an update for this because I currently working on the Windows Phone App to finally release SonicStreamer as Universal App.

Hi Alexander,

it'd would be great if your app would support ssl for self-signed certs as heymrdj already said.
It says "Error: net_http_clients_execution_error".
Thanks in advance.

Hello

For the last hour I have been trying to connect to my fresh subsonic server with this app, only getting the "net_http_client_execution_error".

I've tried putting in the local IP of the server running Subsonic v6 on Debian (http://10.0.0.1:4040) or my "subsonic-url" http://oktober13.subsonic.org:4040 ..
I have opened up port 4040 in the firewall (same machine).
I'm a total noob when it comes to subsonic but have a long experience with networking in both windows, linux and mac.

Is it supposed to work? Am I doing it wrong?? Please help! :)

Hi,

the "net_http_client_execution_error" due to self signed SSL certificates will be fixed in the next update. I was a little busy the last weeks but I hope I can release the update within the next days.

@jorgen.wallen: Can you please contact me via Mail (sonicstreamer@outlook.com) because here I'm not sure if you have also the SSL issue or something else is wrong :D

I'm getting "Error: The remote server returned an error: NotFound". My server address is of form https://<address>:4443. It works just fine from every web browser I've tried. Yet to try if the non-SSL version fares any better, I'll check later today.

Hi armak,

it would be also great if you can send me some details to my mail address. Then I can have a look on that.

Normally you only need the format <address>:<port>. The app will set https:// or http:// automatically. But adding https:// manually should also work. So let's see what I can find out.

Hi Revoluzer,

the fix is already implemented but I still need some time for the testing. I hope I can finish this by end of the week because then I will be on vacation for two weeks where I cannot really work on the app
