new to subsonic, player won't play media

Postby augustkrumm » Tue Apr 13, 2010 1:12 pm

I just installed subsonic on my linux server and when in the web interface, I can't get the player to play any songs. I can create playlists and choose music to play, but can't get the player to start when hitting play.

Any help would be appreciated.

Same with me :-( I'm running Subsonic 3.9 (.deb-Package).
It works well with any Windows-client but in Linux (Ubuntu) neither Firefox nor Konqueror works...

Just noticed this issue trying to use Subsonic from my Ubuntu 9.10 media center. Playlists queue up but nothing plays. It works fine in my browsers on my Mac (all 3) and in Windows 7. Only a problem on my Ubuntu box.

I'm running the newest 3.9 deb of Subsonic for Ubuntu on an Ubuntu 9.10 headless server (different from the media center box).

EDIT: Just tested using the external player with playlist feature and it worked right out of the box, I'm listening to it right now on my media center. It's only the flash player having issues. Possibly a Linux Flash problem?

I just updated from version 3.8 to 3.9 and I now have the same problem. I'm running Subsonic on CentOS 5.4 using the given RPM install. I get no errors in my logs and external players work just fine. The player works fine on Windows using IE/Firefox/Chrome but not on Linux (my laptop is running Fedora 12)

confirmed using .deb package of subsonic 3.9 on Ubuntu Intrepid as Server and Firefox 3.5 on Ubuntu Jaunty as client. The player is there but does neither show any action nor reacts on user input.

FF3.5 on Win works.

Same here - embedded player doesn't seem to work in browsers running on Ubuntu.
New to Subsonic, just started on version 3.9 (installed deb and jre). Must admit the Subsonic "players" have me pretty confused. I'm up to Player 6 now, and none seem to work.

same for me

same problem here. the server is 9.04 linux.

On Client Ubuntu LInux (9.10) - Firefox or Chromium :

*The flash web player won't play any sound, and there's no progress on the bar, or anything else really.

*Additionally, when I try to read a playlist with VLC, it plays 2 seconds then stops, which kinda sucks

*Finally, on my iTouch, Z-subsonic can't seem to be able to find my server, which also kinda blows

On Client Win7:

*flash player works like a charm
*VLC plays one second

=> So, does anyone have any idea how to fix any of it?
Someone Somewhere seemed to suggest augmenting the RAM subsonic can use, but I can't find where to do that.

Thanks a lot already :)

My guess would be that this is a Flash plugin version problem.

Can you please check what version of the Flash plugin you have? Try upgrading it to the latest (Flash player 10.something) and see if that works.

Please report back.

Cheers

Many thanks for the reply Sindre.
On Ubuntu Lucid the Firefox plugin list reports - Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45, which is the latest version.

Problem may be my ignorance regarding Firefox setup.
Under Firefox Preferences Applications the Action for MP3 audio is VLC. The alternative offered is Movie Player.
Flash plugin is the Action for futuresplash and x-shockwave-flash content types.
Microsoft ASX playlists are handled by Windows media player plugin.

In Subsonic, "Play all" populates the playlist and puts a Speaker icon against the first song, but no sound and no progress along the progress bar. Bar shows 00:00 at both ends.

Make any sense?

Thanks guys.

I was able to reproduce the problem both on Ubuntu and Fedora. Fortunately, I also found a fix for it. So this will of course be fixed in 4.0 (a beta version will be released this week), but I'll strongly consider to also make a new 3.9 release with this fix.

Thanks again for reporting this major bug!

Just to inform you that Subsonic 4.0.beta1 is now released, which should fix this problem.

I will not create a 3.9 bugfix release at this time.
