Transcoding with macports HELP!

hi

i'm on a mac running 10.6.3

i've downloaded maports and installed the .pkg i opened and tried terminal and x11 and wrote the code sudo port install lame but i just get error. is there something i'm missing/doing wrong? i want to be able to play m4a files. thanks!

I think you get this error if you haven't installed Xcode first, which is a requirement for MacPorts.

i tried the binaries, i was not sure where to put them, but i tried in library/application support/subsonic/trancode and replaced the two shortcuts that was there. was this the right thing to do? i still got no sound playing my m4a files, but i think it atleast buffers the song. cant remember if it did that before but i dont think so.

is there anything else i can try to make this work?
