Cant figure this out

Postby crashnburnxp » Wed Sep 16, 2009 1:12 am

This is the first time I have really done anything like this and i dont know anyone who knows about this program to help me out. My brain is going numb trying to figure this out and its really irritating me.

I am not able to get a connection from any computer to be able to listen to my music on the web. I have forwarded the ports and it still will not work.

When it comes to DynDNS, im not sure how to connect that service with my comptuers IP address so that way I can link others my music.

I am using Windows. Can anyone help me out?

First of all: Does it work in local network?

Secondly: In the first step, ignore dyndns and try connection via the ip (http://www.whatsmyip.org/)

While DynDNS is useful, supporters now have the ability to use a <MyName>.subsonic.org - This coupled with the UPnP functionality added in the last release will eliminate the need to manually forward ports (Providing your router supports UPnP) and to update your dymanic IP.

As agroni1888 pointed out, you will want to make sure it works on your local network prior to diagnosing remote issues. You will first need to know the local IP address of your host PC that runs Subsonic. For the sake of all users who may view this post, I am going to assume you know nothing about basic networking.

Go to START > Run

Type 'CMD' and hit 'Enter'

Type 'IPCONFIG' and hit 'Enter'

The first and third set of numbers are the important ones. The first being the local (private) IP address and the second being the gateway (Router) IP address. Try going to another computer and typing in <IP Address of Host PC>:80 or 192.168.0.x:80 (This assumes two things: 1. You set the port to the default 80 or 8080 and 2. your firewall has been set to allow this connection) - At this point, you should see the Subsonic interface.

While you are correct for the most part JadoJodo there are some hitches. When you setup port forwarding on a router you must know the source and destination ports in order to map it to a particular machine with that servie running.

This is why I can not use Subsonic. I have punched a pin-hole in the machines internall firewall (packet filtering) and then configured on the Cisco side another pinhole that maps the port range of 41000 - 41999 (the source ports coming from Subsonic) to the machine inside my private Intranet and the service running on port 8080.

When checking my external hardware firewall and even disabling the local machine firewall I can not get to my box using the FQDN name that Subsonic provides.

As my internal network is in the 192.168.X.X range I must rely on either Subsonic to do the mapping via NAT on my network through the FQDN or use DYDNS. However neither appear to work. :(

I need help badly. I am trying to change over from simplify media which worked great for the most part.

I do not know how to make it work after installing everything and choosing my music library folder. Incredibly frustrated that I can't do it on my own. Please help.
