Remote and 3g connection....

Postby soulshare » Thu Apr 22, 2010 12:28 pm

Hi Guys I have donated and have my own yourname.subsonic.org address. In Network settings it says Successfully registered web address, although for a while it says yourname.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (NoRouteToHostException) ??
I have a BTHomeHub V2 router and Windows XP SP 2 machine. I have tried to follow the Port forwarding (port 80) sections/Help on here and other BtHomeHub online tutorials and with the BThomeHub you can activate UPNP which I have done, but Still no luck in accessing Subsonic remotely outside of my own Wireless Network (where it works Great! for my Mac / Laptop & iPhone) I am not too clever on the Port forwarding side of things but if someone out there could help me out I would be so, so grateful. Think this is a great way for me to share my music to pals.

Well done to all involved!

If you activated UPnP on your router you should be able to use the "automatically configure router" option in Subsonic. If that's not working, can you provide more information on exactly what you tried from the tutorials?

Hi thanks for taking the time to reply mate, appreiciated! as I so want to get this working! I used to use Simplify media and I know about jukefly JMPS - which does work and orb, but this one I like the best. anyway below is the link page to the Tutorial I followed for BTHomeHub. but I was not too sure when it came to Port number / range and TCP / UDP - I had read somewhere on the forum (Sorry cannot find) that it was UDP so I put UDP and 80 in both boxes.
http://www.filesaveas.com/bthomehub_portforwarding.html
I also looked at this Forum Tutorial:
http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtop ... rt+forward
I have checked the Auto configure router option, with the port number as 80 - but at present it states 'no router found?' and below that I have put my dynamic address - 'soul7.subsonic.org' but again at the moment it says cannot connect -Connection Timeout Exception?
Im prob just not doing something simple, but any help to get it sorted would be grand! I also want to get it working over 3g for my phone, which hopefully once the port issue is sorted should work? I have both iSub and z-subsonic on iPhone 3gs

I presume it is a port issue but just dont know what Im doing wrong?

Cheers bud.

just to confirm: now states in Network settings

Underneath Auto configure your router:
Successfully forwarding public Port 80 to local Port 80

and with my soul7.subsonic.org adresss
Successfully registered web address

but still I am unable to connect outside of my own wireless network or over 3g.

Not sure if this helps but when I click on the subsonic tray icon and bring up the Subsonic control panel it states my server address as just http://localhost/ is that right?

sorry to be a pain! just trying to give as much info as poss.

Not a pain at all :)

Actually you need to be forwarding TCP traffic not UDP. Subsonic is basically a web server so it uses standard TCP/IP, UDP is used more in online gaming. That could be the problem.

Also it's possible that Subsonic thinks it configured your router but in fact you may need to do it manually. Try changing from UDP to TCP first and see if that fixes it, if not we'll check out your router configuration.

Thanks bud,
will do that now, can I just clarify what numbers I place in both the Port range (2 boxes) and the Translate to ( 2 boxes) and the Trigger port box on the router config. set up (BThomehub) Think this is where I got stuck last time.

Thankyou

Sorry bud, one more thing.
The only way I can test this now as an 'outside my own network' connection is by using 3g on my iPhone, as my Girlfirend can no longer access her works PC to try for me. Bless her! she tried ha! - would this work? :D

If you have set Subsonic to use port 80, you just put 80 for the beginning and end of the range, put the ip of the computer running subsonic (which you obtain differently depending on your system), and choose tcp forwarding.

You can actually test right at home in your own browser. If you use your subsonic.org address it will still point to your external IP and should work like an outside connection. You can also test using your iPhone on 3G.

Looks like the port is forwarded if you can access that page using the subsonic.org address. I just tried and saw the same thing. Not sure about that error, I've never seen that before with Subsonic

I have been able to access using my subsonic.org address no probs from inside my own wireless network before, but I still cannot access from outside of that on friends PC's and now this new error on my page.

Have no idea what is going on?

If you can help, really appreciate this help mate!

I'm sorry but I'm completely unfamiliar with that error. Hopefully someone else with more experience troubleshooting Subsonic can lend a hand.
