You cant tell me that because it is free it shouldnt have good documentation. It essentially has NO documentation. And actually, since it uses 3rd party products it should explain how to. An its support forum that is supposed to be helpful has more useless posts like the one you just posted than anything else.

Also, whether I donate hinges solely on if I get it working or not.

I'm sorry I used my own free time too help you. As previous poster said, SSL is not the concern of Subsonic. It's doable and if the community knows how to, they'll help polite people.

I'll qoute myself from earlier argument: http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6776

The biggest cause of friction tends to be in the online interactions: A "3a" user new to Linux asks for help with a problem he's having. When he doesn't get that help at what he considers an acceptable rate, he starts complaining and demanding more help. Because that's what he's used to doing with paid-for tech support. The problem is that this isn't paid-for support. This is a bunch of volunteers who are willing to help people with problems out of the goodness of their hearts. The new user has no right to demand anything from them, any more than somebody collecting for charity can demand larger donations from contributors.

...and another useless post. How can a product use something and not explain how or why? Clearly I am not the only one. If you search the forums all you will find is posts and posts with no replys, including someone in this thread other than myself.

Here is an example of a FREE product well documented.. Perhaps you have heard of it:

http://ampache.org/wiki/start

and relavant to this discussion:

http://ampache.org/wiki/install:ssl

Where can i find something like this for Subsonic? And for the record, ampache isnt apache yet they explain how to set it up.

Okay. Now what about Windows?

BTW. I find this forum especially useful, particularly because Sindre is very involved.

How do you suppose that free product became well documented?

You build it, make it useful, and convince other community members to contribute.

Setting up network share a breeze

Postby ShoestringWebs » Thu Apr 29, 2010 1:13 pm

I got mine set up quickly with little fuss:

Windows XP, files on an Airlink NAS with the share name "NetDrive".

Subsonic set up the port forwarding after I changed the port from the default.

As soon as I got the network path correct, it worked. Mine looked like this:

//Netdrive/Storage/C/Music

I use a DynDNS URL directed to the correct port:
