i think i have set everything up ok but i have one major problem. i have z-subsonic on my iphone and when im in my house i can play all my music from my pc onto my iphone, but as soon as i leave my house i loose connection and can not play anything! someone please help as this has the potential to be a fantastic app! thanks in advance.

I take it you entered the local IP of where ever your server is running and not your Internet IP. You need to use your external Internet IP and have the port forward from your router to the machine the Subsonic app is running on.

thanks for your help but im still confused. ive found my external ip address. where do i enter this info and where do i find my port number? sorry im rubbish at anything like this.

I'm not familiar with the iphone app but you'd use that external IP as your server address on your iphone.

Unless you've changed anything, subsonic should be running on port 80. You need to set up port forwarding on your router to take requests on port 80 and to forward them to the IP address of the machine subsonic is on. That's assuming you have a router.

What that does is allow you to connect home over the Internet and the port forwarding allows you to get to your subsonic server.

If you need more help give us your router make and model.

Load up the subsonic server in your browser.

Navigate to Settings --> Network.

Check "Automatically configure your router to allow incoming connections to Subsonic (UPnP port forwarding)."

Check "Access your server over the Internet using an easy-to-remember address."

Register a username at the subsonic.org address.

Use this new URL with Z-Subsonic.

Alternatively, you can register a free Dynamic DNS address at www.no-ip.com. Install the client software on your Subsonic server computer so it will always update your IP address with the Dynamic DNS service.
