Connection issues?

I'm running subsonic on an Ubuntu 9.10 box I use as a media server. It's hard wired to a WRT54G Linksys router and I've got a 15Mb connection through cable.
Streaming to any client (android, web and local network) I get brief pauses about every 10 secs on the first track in my cue and then it clears up as the buffer becomes larger. This may not be an issue related to Subsonic but I can't seem to narrow down what's causing it.
Any ideas?
P.S.
I have no other connection issues and this problem occurred while running it on a different system running windows 7 as well.
