alright my issue is officially resolved!! thanks to sindre, wooo!!

for those of you who are curious what my issue was, to see if it's your issue as well:

it was simply my own firewall in my anti-virus software. i had to add port 80 to the firewall exceptions list, once i did that, everything worked perfectly!! it's funny, i never even thought of that being an issue. but it was, apparently. =/

best app ever... haha, kind of a pain in the ass, to be honest, but once you figure it out, it's fantastic! =p

Same problem but firewall not the issue

Postby drunkbastardradio » Tue May 04, 2010 11:40 am

I can connect over WiFi on my home network. I haven't tried a different WiFi spot yet. When I try connecting over 3G I get network errors. I shut down Kaspersky firewall, but it still will not connect over 3G. It is a D-Link DIR-655 router with enable UPnP checked, PC running Win 7 Ultimate. Under router settings virtual server set to local IP address, both TCP and UDP, allow always. Any help would be most appreciated.

well if it doesn't work locally, it more then likely won't work on a different network =/

which app do u have, i know there are 3 different ones. one for andriod, one for iphone and theres another one i can't think of at the moment.

some things to check: even though u have UPnP enabled, i guess sometimes it only thinks it's working, did you try manually opening port 80 TCP.

also, if u have another computer on the same network, try it in the browser, see if it works there. u can type in ur subsonic addess or the local IP of the computer subsonic is running on or even the internet IP could work too (ipchicken.com). does it work?
and check that you are using the correct local IP as well using cmd, it sounds silly, but with me i had issues with my local IP changing a lot.

if you don't have another computer to try, try it in the browser of the phone, and not through the app. it's weird, as soon as i signed in through the browser of my phone once (using the same username as the one set in the app), the app worked fine for me. as soon as i login in the browser with a different username, the app stops working (i set up a few accounts for family) but as soon as i logged back into the one that matches in the app, it worked fine again. don't exactly know why... but try it and see if it works for you.

while doing all of this either keep the firewall down or add port 80 to the exeptions list.

let me know if that helps...

It works on wifi, just not 3G. I can get the admin login page if I go to drunkbastardradio.subsonic.org on my laptop. I'm running Android (N1). I believe I have port 80 manually forwarded to my computer correctly. I had the firewalls down (router and Kaspersky) and still couldn't make a connection over 3G. With wifi, again, not a problem. Cannot connect through phone browser on 3G. IP address hadn't changed. Switched to wifi, went to the subsonic.org page through the browser, logged in, went to the admin page. Turned off wifi, couldn't connect through browser or app.

I'm dumbfounded. Or just dumb. Maybe both.

Thanks

hmmm it's hard to say then, i don't know, once i got my app working locally it worked fine over the internet... and i asked you all the same questions people asked me. i would suggest trying out dyndns but i'm not sure that would make a difference in your situation... i guess it doesn't hurt to try if you got the time...

you could try messaging sindre, the developer, he helped me figure it out, and gave surprizingly fast responses.

and it's not that your dumb, i had a lot of issues myself, it took me over a week to figure it out. and as i learned it has a lot to do with the router itself, some make it work with no problems and some take a lot of time trying to figure out how to make it work. believe me, by day five of my "mission" i was so angry and obsessed with trying to figure out what was wrong, i couldn't sleep, haha

but ya try messaging sindre, sorry i couldn't help more, but i wish you luck, it really is an awesome app! and when you figure it out, post your fix, maybe it'll help others, not to mention, i'm rather curious myself. =)

good luck

Sounds like the port forwarding doesn't work properly.

When you go to drunkbastardradio.subsonic.org from a computer on your local network, the subsonic.org server detects that you are on the same LAN, and redirects you directly to the internal IP, in this case http://192.168.0.198:80/

When accessing drunkbastardradio.subsonic.org from outside your LAN, you are redirected to http://72.150.133.27:80/ which doesn't reply.

If the automatic port forwarding feature in Subsonic (Settings > Network) works, I recommend using that rather than setting it up manually - since it handles changing IP of your server (DHCP).

For more info, please see the Getting Started guide.

Hope this helps!

Sindre bud, REALLY hope you can help me out here, I have tried every angle on this I can - Basically I would love for this to work outside of my own network as it is such a great app, much better and easier than jinzora and all the others. basically I have it running on a sony viao XP machine and locally I can access fine I have a BTHome hub V2 router, when I put in my assigned address which is soul7.subsonic.org it then gives me a 192. address? which as far as I can see will not work outside of my local network. I have tried port forwarding my hub settings via the bthomehub page as following instructions, but I honestly cannot see where I am going wrong??? it works over my network fine on my mac and iphone, but not on 3g or outside. I am so, desperate to get this figured out, if you have time( I know you are a busy man!) I have previously posted in this help topic photo's of my HOMEHUB set up page, I have done all the subsonic settings (UPNP enabled etc...) I donated and got the soul7.subsonic.org address, but somewhere along the way I must be doing something simply wrong - port forwarding??? I really hope you can help me mate, I know you must get asked this a lot, or if anyone out there can sort this out I would be so grateful, I have looked at the firewall situation also - that has been disabled.

Fingers crossed

Hi Dean,

Instructions for your router can be found here:

http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... efault.htm

Notice that you have to go to Settings > Application Sharing > Configuration to specify which computer the router should forward port 80 to.

Hope this helps,

SUUUUUUCCCESSSS!!!!!! buzzing Sindre thankyou so so much, Basically I had placed the port no in less boxes than I should, and I did need to re-boot the hub, Im pretty new to all that stuff, but that guide you forwarded was Def, the easiest to follow, also I needed to assign the right PC / device like you said in application sharing, either way its working now ( I have only tested over 3g) - so that should be all good! THANKYOU!

Just wondering is there a guide to show how I can install just subsonic on a pc so it comes up straight away (like a jukebox would??) I wish to have it in my office with a touch screen, but don't want any of my staff to mess around with the computer itself?
It is a great replacement for simplifymedia on my iphone and I will def use it when Im out and about.

Thanks for a great peice of software!

A Very happy Dean (Soulshare) x :D

Glad I could help :-)

A simple solution for your office pc could be to use the Google Chrome browser. It has something called "Create Application Shortcut" which basically opens the Subsonic web page as if it was a native desktop application.

Add the shortcut to the Startup folder in Windows, and you're done.
