Subsonic Minimum Specs

Postby Quickdood » Thu Jun 03, 2010 6:23 pm

Hello,

I was thinking about buying an asus eee box with the below specs. I wanted to use this primarily as a subsonic server switching from my Linux box which runs hot and uses tons of energy. Does anyone know if this computer would be capable of running subsonic well? It would have to trans-code for 3 other users than myself at the same time.

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like Subsonic doesn't need much to run.

Ya Subsonic will run on almost anything. It just needs around 100+ megs of ram depending on the size of your music collection and enough hard drive space for your music (or it could even use music right off a network share). Doesn't need a fast processor or even a monitor.

I <3 Subsonic :D

You are free to delete shortcuts pointing to it from a Start Menu, but that's about it.

I have run 120+gb music library on a p3/550 with 512mb ram on Ubuntu 9 and it did fine. It was the only app on the machine on a FIOS 15/5 internet pipe. Had up to 5 people on it @ once all running aes encrypted ssh tunnels to it. Windowz is going to require more ram to be as efficient as linux but a gig should work fine. The more the better obviously. Currently running it on a pos headless eMachine p4 with a gig of ram and it's much better so you should be fine.

Have fun. Subsonic is awesome.
