Even after forcing a rescan in Search, and after hard reboots. Anyone else? What to try/look for?

I am wondering if there is any special characters in your folder/file names that might be causing SubSonic to abort the search?

Is subsonic aware of all your folder locations where your media is stored?

Two observations: The tag for the file that appears to trip up the scanner is in fact fine, no odd characters upon examination of tag with several editors (mediamonkey, tag and rename). Secondly, once the scanner 'trips', it skips directories and 'children' in a random fashion: I see a log with a few dozen WARN Skipped childen listed when in fact it's Gigs upon Gigs missing. In troubleshooting, I deleted 4.0.1 and installed 3.9 which worked fine before the 4.0.1 update, but scanner is reporting 4.0, as you see above in log, so now I'm going to try a clean install, all over again.

Thanks for your response wildwalker! All of my music is on an external usb drive, and the directory (drive) is specified within Subsonic. 3.9 worked fine, so something in the scanner has changed in 4.0.1...trying reversion next.

I have loads of these external usb drives (around a dozen lol) and some of them do really wierd things.

The most annoying is that they can do a kind of soft reset during load (not all of them) and so you can read from the drive for a few seconds.

Maybe you could try to split your music up in to subfolders under the music folder (rock, pop, rap, dance, punk, emo etc, or a-f, g-l, m-s, t-z)

Then add one folder at a time to the music folders in Subsonic.

Also, I would do a checkdisk on the USb drive to check for any possible errors.

Failing that, copy some of the files subsonic has reported as failing on to your local hard disk, and try getting subsonic to recognise them.

Should keep you busy :)

Good luck with the 3.9 rollback, I am considering that myself due to the issues I am having :(
