Subsonic on Windows Mobile 6.5

Postby kermit22 » Fri Jun 05, 2009 4:16 pm

Hi Sindre-
Good news. I upgraded my HTC Touch Diamond to Windows Mobile 6.5 from WinMo 6.1 and it is now working. I had to install a java helper application in order for playerjad.view file to work correctly, but I used the same helper file that I tried with 6.1 and I couldn't get it to work in that version.

To be a little more specific, I downloaded and installed the esmertec Jbed java application to my phone, then I went to my /subsonic/wap site and clicked on the Download Player (Beta) link in Opera Mobile. Opera didn't know how to handle the file so I directed it to the Java program that I had installed earlier and like magic it worked this time (after I figured out where to type in my username and password).

What kind of phone do you have, and can you link to the exact Java program you used? I have been unsuccessful getting the Java app to work before, but if I can get it to work as you have, that would be perfect.

I just wondered if someone could point me in the direction of the download link for the Java player. I've connected sucessfully to the WAP site on my server without any problems at all but the only option I get when selecting play on phone is to download the m3u playlist.

Where should I find the link to download the player and is there something Im missing?

Phone is a HTC Touch2 running WinMo6.5.

Cheers,
Iain

Not sure if it's relevant or not but on my (nearly ancient) Viewsonic V37 I installed TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player). You might need to search around a bit since it's long ago discontinued.

However, with that I can listen to subsonic on my PocketPC. I think I may have had to open a .m3u playlist in TCPMP first but now that I've done that it just starts playing whenever I choose "play on phone".

Maybe that will work for you?

I believe the original poster was referring to the old Java based mobile player that used to be included in subsonic in the /mobile folder. This app is no longer included in the new versions. I never had any luck getting it to run either.

I tried (unsuccessfully) the TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player) solution on my Windows Mobile 6.5 (HTC Tilt 2).

As I spent over an hour trying I figured I would go ahead and post what I tried to see if anyone else wants to give it a shot or see if they have other ideas.

1) I had to find a version of TCPMP that would work with the newer Windows Mobile devices as the official TCPMP project is dead. The XDA-Developers forum does have some modded versions that I was able to install and get to work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380387

2) I then went to my subsonic web site using my phones browser. http://mysite/wap. I chose a playlist and hit "play on phone". This of course failed as there is no application associated with .m3u. I did this step just so I would have an .m3u file on my phone. By default my phone saved the file in the "My Documents" folder.

3) I opened TCPMP and chose to open a file. I browsed to my "My Documents" folder on my phone and opened the play.m3u file that I downloaded in step 2. It of course gave me an error, but the purpose here was to have WM6.5 know that the .m3u file should be opened by TCPMP.

4) I now went back to my phones browser and again browsed to the /wap folder on my subsonic server. I chose another playlist and hit the "play on phone" button.

Results: It does open TCPMP and attempt to play the file, but it gives me the error "unable to open URL"
