Well, there is no such group currently, but I can upload beta versions to the SourceForge file repository if beta testing is called for.

However, I plan to release new versions quite frequently while I'm working on bug fixes and new features in the time ahead.

Thanks,
Sindre

More or less cross-posted from a different thread, but I want a stream only mode and until then I can't justify donating money until it is there. Currently, any music I select to play is cached on the phone taking up memory and there's no way to stop that from happening. Yes, it's great for offline playback or whatever, but if I cared about offline playback I'd have transferred the files over to the phone myself. The whole reason I'm interested in subsonic is streaming music from my computer to my phone. I don't want to have to deal memory usage.

The current delete cache option resulted in me having constant notifications about errors trying to write to a non-existent file which makes the program near-unusable. This is on a Nexus One running Android 2.1.

Somewhat unrelated, I've considered actually developing my own client if this isn't going to happen in the official one. I don't have a lot of experience coding for android, so I'm curious if there's some technical reason for the caching. I'd prefer to have it simply stream directly to the music player backend.

This has now been implemented and will be included in the next release

Great! Thanks Sindre. PS, any idea when the next release will be?

+1 for remote jukebox.

Also, the button labeled "Select" used to select all the songs in a folder should probably be relabeled to "Select All" for clarity.

Sindre, I'm watching 24 season 3 right now, and you look a lot like one of the bad guys...

Thought you should know, in case you want to try being an actor on top of being a programmer!

The source code for the android app is in the repositories already. You can just patch it and if you do a good job I'm sure Sindre would include it.

The reason for it being a cache is because the first version released tried to stream it straight into the music player as expected, but it failed constantly and just didn't work very well over 3g or edge. The caching gave him the ability to set a size requirement for buffer as well as store the file itself as it played.

I'd like to see the "restart" issue resolved (which causes a stutter and the play to show up in the notify again) fixed asap. That's the one thing really holding me back. It's hard to jam out when the thing skips or pauses :). Also if the cache had a simple song number choice that'd be great. If I was able to cache the currently playing song plus one more I think that'd solve my problems just fine. That'll also give the player a quick start for the next file since it won't need to buffer before starting like most other streamers tend to do. Since this is album based, I'd like seemless tracks.

Any way that you could check the option to allow the installation be moved the the SD Card (for Android 2.2)?

Thanks.

Yeah, the skip/restart thing is super annoying.

Why not set a cache size limit, or song count limit. Once the limit is reached, the songs/tracks at the END of the buffer would get dropped off, and new songs would take their place at the beginning.

it might be a pipe dream, but what about genius style playlists? either pulling from last.fm databases, or something similiar to mixzing's reccommended songs

I don't get the skipping on Android 2.2.

I didnt either, until i recently switched back to 2.1 from 2.2, and i get skipping on the first song of an album, even after subsonic android app has moved onto another song.

EDIT: I am still using the same radio image from 2.2 on my 2.1 build. So I dont think its a signal/radio issue, might be related to something else in the OS, though i have no idea how to prove this.

I think I figured out my problem with the constant error notifications when I delete the cache. It was because the songs were still on the playlist. It's a little extra work to clear the playlist and delete the cache to maintain memory usage but I'll live with it. Either way, I think there should be a check when clearing the cache to delete it from the playlist as well.

Would love an option to keep the screen alive while subsonic is active for when I'm driving.

I'm pretty much using subsonic for all my music playing now. When driving, I'm having to take off the screen lock before I can perform any operation.
