Also, I am experiencing the same album art issues with playlist tracks mentioned above (only a small part of the album art is displayed - top 10% on random songs, though the small thumbnail shows up fine).

Any ideas of what may be happening? Are these known issues to be fixed in 2.2?

Thanks for the great app!!

I actually hadn't experienced this trouble loading large playlists, thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'll try to reproduce that on my end and see if I can fix it before 2.2, if not it will be in a 2.2 update if I can isolate the cause. It may be as simple as putting a longer timeout on the network connection that grabs the XML file or something like that.

Regarding the album art issue, the images I'm getting back from Subsonic are proper images (I do a check on my side before using them), that means that have proper image header data and otherwise aren't currupt. The problem seems to be occurring on Subsonic's side. It does the scaling of the album art before sending it down. It seems to choke on some files when scaling them to 320, but handles all the scale's to 60px for the album cells just fine. Not sure there's much I can do about this without digging into the Subsonic code to try and fix the problem.

@wdpaynter: Also, you said you had a repeatable crash caused when those long playlists don't load. Can you email your iSub crash reports to support@einsteinx2.com? That would really help me fix the problem.

Here's how to do it:

Just sync your phone/touch/pad with iTunes and it will sync all your crash logs. Then just send me the ones related to iSub (they should have isub in the file name) Here are the directories that the logs will be saved to (Note, I got this from a website that may be out of date so let me know if these directories are incorrect):

* Mac OS X : /Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DEVICE_NAME>
* Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/<DEVICE_NAME>
* Windows Vista: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DEVICE_NAME>

Nope, it will still fully support OS 3.1 as it does now, multitasking is the only feature that requires iOS 4.

relief

Postby tilliidle » Thu Jun 17, 2010 4:17 pm

ah good to hear. don't want to upgrade just yet

by the way i have a idea for a feature:
In isub, where you can see what others are listening to, wouldn't it be great if it was possible to click on the song and have it also played?

einstein

It may be some time before I can get you the logs, as I am traveling.

FYI - The crash seems to only occur when trying to immediately access the same playlist again (after no tracks load) or another playlist. I believe if I try to go to the artist tab and play individual songs, it does not crash.

If you are successful in fixing the "timeout" issue, then this should be irrelevant. Though I will send you the logs ASAP.

Can't wait for 2.2 on my new iPhone 4!!
Thanks!

I hate to pester you about this, I know you've been working hard at this. But since iOS 4 was released today, can we expect the 2.2 update sometime soon? Thanks again for all your effort!

using new subsonic id/pw in isub

Postby flicker87 » Wed Jun 23, 2010 5:23 pm

I'm really loving subsonic, and also isub to stream my music while in my car.

I've read this whole thread, and didn't see the problem that I'm having mentioned.

When I first set up subsonic, I had only the admin account and used that in my web browser and in isub.

I soon learned that my higher bitrate songs would often stutter and delay when streaming over 3G.

To get around this problem, I created another userid in subsonic with a max bitrate of 128. I deleted my profile in isub, and added this new ID and PW.

On my next drive, my higher bitrate songs were still not streaming cleanly over 3G. I looked at the song information screen in isub and it still showed the higher bitrate, and not the 128 that I set for this ID.

When I got home, I looked in my subsonic log and saw that the songs in question were still being streamed to the admin account, and not the new account I set up for use on my iphone.

Does anybody know how I can get isub to forget my initial admin id/pw (which I did delete out of isub) and log into subsonic using the new one I created (and added to isub - it's the only connection defined in there now)?

Sounds like you entered in the new account but didn't make it the default. Sorry it's not very intuitive in the 2.1.x versions, but I've added some alert popups to make it more obvious what to do.

You just need to go into the server list, tap the new server entry and hit the Make Default Server button. Then you'll be good to go. You should notice that the new server, once made default, will have a star next to it. And btw, it will always show the original bitrate in the player overlay, not the transcoded bitrate. I'll look into possibly showing original + transcoded to make it more clear.

2.2 release candidate 1 will be in my beta testers' hands this week. It's taken much longer than expected to get this version out as it turned from a small feature update into an almost full blown recode from the ground up. New features and stability enhancements galore. If everything goes well, expect a submission sometime next week (*crosses fingers*). And if it makes you feel any better (or maybe it's rubbing salt in the wound) iOS4 multitasking is already implemented in my latest beta and working beautifully including lock screen and task switcher player controls.

isub update now crashing much more often

Postby wunderbred » Wed Jun 23, 2010 8:25 pm

Hi,

Since I've updated to the latest iSub, it actually seems to crash much more often than the previous version. Typically it seems to crash when it tries to resume what I was playing last before exiting out of the app.

I'm using an iPhone 3G, just updated to OS4 and the crashing is just as prevalent as it was on the previous OS version.

Not a big issue because iSub is great whether it crashes on resume or not, but unless its an isolated incident it may be something to consider, as from my understanding this latest update was to eliminate the resume crash bug?

Thanks for your time! Really!

iSub: Support for URL that auto redirects to port?

Postby kalaxx » Fri Jun 25, 2010 2:04 am

iSub is a great app!

One challenge: I have a reverse proxy running on my HP Mediasmart Server that redirects my subsonic.org personal web address so I don't need to enter the port to access the application.

Entering in just my server address which reolves fine from a browser, returns the following message:
There was an error parsing the XML response. Maybe you forgot to set the right port for your server?

Is there any way to enter an address without the port specified?

Thanks!
Kalaxx
I donated to register my copy of Subsonic. You should too! :)

Thats cool. I just bought the client as a replacement for 'simplify'
I'd love the multitasking support.

I'm really glad though, I dont need a third party between the client and server...the simpllify dudes soured me on that

I'm also a refugee from the Simplify camp and Subsonic + iSub has been nothing short of awesome. It does everything I wanted and more.

I do have to say though that I'm also getting empty playlists when there are a lot of songs in them. I use a 'top rated' playlist quite often with all my 4 and 5 rated songs. It's currently sitting at 1,497 songs but when I try to open it in iSub it's completely empty.

I've also noticed some number discrepancies. iSub lists my total artists as 277, Subsonic as 351, iTunes at 257. I'm guessing it might be the way compilation artists are tallied or something, I'm not sure. I haven't actually looked to see if any particular artist is missing.

Regardless, awesome App Einstein! If I can get all my playlists to work properly I'll be the happiest camper ever.

Artist sorting

Postby Alpione » Mon Jun 28, 2010 1:33 pm

Hey all...

Yet another Simplify "refugee." Tried Orb and had ridiculous stability and performance problems. Trying ooTunes and it's good (with a great developer,) but his focus is on the Internet radio portion of the app rather than the music server. So here I am with Subsonic and iSub. Enjoying it so far.

Looking forward to what appears to be a big 2.2 release for iSub. One question that I haven't seen asked (or just missed it.)

The "Artists" tab seems to be a directory structure of the "watched" folder rather than a query using ID3 tags (like "Albums.") Is it possible to make "Artists" ID3 tag reading an option in iSub? I ask because not all of my music is organized into directory structures and it can be a chore to find things with the current sort.

For example, I have a folder called "Miscellaneous," which is mostly unsorted live stuff. In iSub, I just see a long list of song names without artists, album names (important for live music when it gives the show date,) etc. None of the artists for those songs show up in the regular "Artists" list even though their ID3 tags are populated properly.

Otherwise, everything is working great.

Thanks..

Adam
