Currupt songs

Postby einsteinx2 » Thu Jun 17, 2010 3:27 pm

Has anyone else come across this? This happened to the same albums (2 I found so far, Disc 1 and Disc 2 of an album) on both of my Subsonic servers. Both servers showed the songs fine the last time I went to play that album maybe a few days ago. Weird it would happen on two different machines to the same songs. I tried playing the songs in a regular media player and they work fine. Any ideas?

The crazy ? signs usually indicate that in the id3 tag of the mp3 has an "illegal" char. The best thing you can do is edit the id3 tag en remove all ?,:'... and other fancy chars.
I hope it helps.

Turns out it was because of a weird apostrophe character in the file names. Replaced them with a normal ' character and now all is well. On Ubuntu Linux.

Looking at the id3 tags it also has the apostrophe character and not a normal single quote. I'm guessing at some point some software (not sure if it was Subsonic) wrote the tag name to the file name causing the problem because it worked fine when I first loaded the songs (I guess the file names used to use a regular single quote). I'm mostly just guessing, but anyway renaming the files took care of it immediately.
