Verizon Wireless, Motorola Droid stock 2.1. Subsonic used to be great but the past 2 android updates have really given me problems.
First - When I play a playlist off of my server, a lot of my songs simply don't load and I get an error in the message bar up top of an "Error Downloading <song name here with the cache folder structure mentioned>". A few songs will work but the rest do nothing other than giving me that random error message and not play. My best guess is that the server is trying to transcode it on the fly (I have mostly MP3s & WMAs) and my Droid is hung up waiting for my server to transcode everything? It shouldn't be transcoding the MP3s, but they're hanging too. Maybe it's waiting to stream Song1.wma before it streams Song2.mp3 and I'm just mashing buttons too fast and don't give it enough time to transcode & transfer Song1.wma before skipping to another one in the hopes it works?
Second - thinking the above is some sort of random problem, I close out of Subsonic and then try to kill the application using 'Droid Home > Settings > Applications > Running Services > Subsonic. I kill it in there, but it doesn't go away. It stops being listed in the Running Services, but the play button & my (sometimes) playing song remains in the Android top-drop-down toolbar but there's no obvious way to exit out or kill Subsonic in this instance.
PS - Want to throw my vote in for being able to totally disable the cache (except for perhaps the currently playing song?) I appreciate the need some people have for caching and the obvious performance improvements for dropped connections, but if I wanted to copy my music onto my phone for playback I could do that without having Subsonic do it for me.
Let me know if I can provide any additional details.
