username/password help

Postby mrjoelcarter » Tue Jun 22, 2010 3:36 am

I'm sorry to post, but I've searched/read high and low for this info, but I can't find it.

I installed Subsonic, got everything configured correctly, and then got sidetracked for a month. Now what I think I used as my username/password won't work and I have no other ideas.

Is there any place to change this? Thanks for any help!

If you know the username and password for the admin user. The default is

username:admin
password:admin

Then in the settings > users page you will be able to change the password of any user.

If you don't know that or the password of any admin user then you're left with two options.

1. Delete Subsonics's database. This is the easiest option but you will loose all your settings and you will starting from scratch, you have been warned!

To do this make sure subsonic isn't running and navigate to the directory that subsonic is installed in and delete the 'db' directory then start subsonic again.

2. Access subsonic's database and change the password manually. Subsonic uses HSQL but that's all I know. I'll look into this in the future if I get time. I'm in the process of writing documentation for subsonic so hopefully your question will make it in there at some point.

That was the problem...I had already changed the username/password past admin/admin. Normally I have no problem remembering, but this time, right after I got it set up, I had my mind off it for a month.

Following up that, I've tried to delete even more than a database file....I've deleted all the files related to Subsonic and then reinstalled, but no use, admin/admin still doesn't work.

There must be a file somewhere that's connected to Subsonic but not labeled as such...but I can't find it.

Attached is a screenshot of what I see when I open the Subsonic package contents on a Mac....

Again, thanks for any help, because I was excited by what I had tested!

I'm sorry I don't have OSX anywhere to hand so I can't test installing the mac subsonic install. The database must be somewhere I just don't know where.

Try looking for a file called subsonic.data

I understand that OSX has some unix style tools, so the find command might be available so start up the console/terminal and try running

Code: Select all
find / -name subsonic.data

This will list any files the "find" tool finds with the filename subsonic.data

warning this will search the entire filesystem so this may take a while!
