Subsonic native on a NAS, but which NAS should I buy?

Postby Grumblll » Wed Jul 07, 2010 11:45 am

Hi,

currently I've got a collection of 2TB of music.
I'm running Subsonic on a EEE Box PC (Atom, 1 GB Mem, with 3 USB 2.0 1 TB disks)
I'm looking for a NAS, on that NAS I want to run Subsonic, so that I don't need any additional hardware to play my music.

Requirements:
4 Disks (4x 2TB), Raid 5, Subsonic

On my list I've got the following 4 NAS products:
Synology DS410j
http://www.synology.com/enu/products/DS410j/index.php
# CPU Frequency: 800MHz
# Memory: 128MB
OS: ?

Synology DiskStation DS410
http://www.synology.com/enu/products/DS410/index.php
# CPU Frequency: 1.06GHz
# Memory: 512MB
OS: ?

QNAP TS-410 Turbo NAS
http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=134
CPU: Marvell 6281 800MHz
DRAM: 256MB DDRII RAM
OS: Linux-embedded system

QNAP TS-419P Turbo NAS
http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=127
CPU: Marvell 6281 1.2GHz
DRAM: 512MB DDRII RAM
OS: Linux-embedded system

So, on which system I can setup the Java-Runtime with Subsonic, has the right CPU/RAM requirement to serve up to 3 TB of music?

Streaming to another PC & Android (LAN/Wifi/3G/H)

Please help!

Thanks,
Grumblll

Ai, both QNAP devices are running on an ARM processor, and the Java runtime needs an Intel CPU.
Which comes on the QNAP TS-459 (II) Pro Turbo NAS, which is a little bit over budget.
