Sindre,

The Android app is really coming along nicely.

Is there any chance of the ability to control the jukebox player from the app coming soon ? :-) This would make my whole family very happy, and possibly result in me buying a view of those cheap Android pads showing up on ebay.

Large number of transcodes/downloads appear after applying

Postby sabbatology » Mon Jul 12, 2010 6:13 pm

Picked up this latest Android release this morning and after accessing my server I noticed a large number of transcodes / downloads started happening.

I cannot find a way to see what these are? Nor can I find a way to stop them. I've stopped/started the service on Win XP.

Same thing happened to me. I think it's because of the new code to make the songs available to other media players on the device. I just wiped everything I had downloaded and started over and it's been fine since. When it re-downloaded the existing ones after the update it hung at the end of many of them, leaving them at 99.99% downloaded or basically complete but it prevented the download from moving on to the next track. Kinda weird.

Looks like the option to clear the cache is gone now?

FYI, you can easily delete the /Subsonic folder on your card with a filemanager such as Astro.

I did forget to mention that 1.4 still has the bug where about half the time tracks dont advance if the device is asleep. Every version of the app has had it.

Yes, I did that and I thought my problems had been solved. Listened to a album today and everything seemed fine. But then I "Queued" another album to listen to and a few minutes later my Android player stopped... I checked my server and a couple dozen transcode jobs had started under the Subsonic thread. Server CPU has been brought to its knees.

This is really depressing! Subsonic is my most used Android App. I love it.

Is there any way to install the previous version on my Droid?

OK, earlier I had deleted the subsonic folder and uninstalled/installed the android app. Everything seemed fine... until I queued an album then all the transcodes started up again.

This time I only removed the subsonic folder and did NOT reinstall the android app. I only killed the app with a droid app management tool. Then I stopped my subsonic server so all the transcode jobs would stop. Restarted service... Then I opened my android app and the transcode jobs started again for what looks like the album I was listening to before.

Hopefully, this feedback will help or maybe there's something I can do differently.

Is there any way to kill queued downoads from the android side????

Upgraded to 1.4 and now I cant connect either in my LAN or 3G. Says a network error occurred - try again later. I was able to use 1.3 fine. I pass the Test Connection, however when I try to view my artist list, it doesnt connect. I can connect via the web just fine internally and externally. I can hit your demo site fine via the android. Any ideas? Is there a log I can view?

Im on a Droid 2.1 OS and my collection is rather large - about 118GB

Sindre, this sounds like the same issue I mentioned above, anything that could have been changed from 1.3 > 1.4 that would cause this? My collection's in the ~400gb range but I doubt that would have much to do with this. It definitely seems to be a subfolder size issue, as a subfolder with one 12-track album in it loads fine (90% of the time) whereas a large folder with 15 subfolders and 300 total songs might load after 15 or so tries...and even then that's not a guarantee.

I'm noticing this is also affecting my playlists - a 150-song playlist will ALWAYS generate the "a network error..." message. I haven't made any external changes to my library between 1.3 & 1.4, and suddenly this playlist simply will not load. Playlists of 18, 38, & 69 songs all loaded, though many of those didn't load the first 3-5 times I tried to load them.

Any thoughts? This is making the app largely unusable for me...

Ditto on this. Just thought I'd let it be known that there seems to be a big problem with large collections. Generally when I open a folder with less files it opens fine, but the larger folders almost always error out. It makes this wonderful app almost useless to me :-(
