Postby sindre_mehus » Mon Aug 16, 2010 5:15 pm

Hi guys,

Version 1.6 of the Subsonic Android app has been released in Android Market:

o Exit button, by popular request ;-)
o Tuning of network timeouts.
o Minor bug fixes.

Hope you like it!

Firstly I have to say I love this app :D

I really want to buy it but I'm still having the issue where when it plays it still randomly pauses on me, but only when its streaming. If its already downloaded its fine. Any idea when a fix is coming?

I'm running an HTC hero on 2.1 :)

Thanks!

The longer wait for network requests has helped my issue with the large playlists loading. Thanks for that! Now if you can get large playlists to load faster that would be be really cool.

Here is one usability idea. It might be nice to have the ability to have anything put into the play queue to be shuffled automatically. Most media players have a shuffle mode where all items being played are automatically shuffled. I hope I described that correctly.

Thanks for the update!

Thank you for your hard work.

Edit: After using the exit button I still see it in my task manager.

I posted a fix with the large playlist performance. It has to do with coverarts. I have not given my source files to Sindre so that he can itegrate them in or make new config options to disable coverarts. But if you drop the supplied compiled class files into your server installation you will see a huge performance boost.

Sindre, the client is much peppier now. Thanks for the update.

I'm getting many force closes on the last couple of versions of the Android client, including the new 1.6.

Sindre - is there a recommended way to enable/submit logging to help you identify the issue? This is on a Nexus One w/ 2.2

Thanks.

The new version (1.6) seems to leave two files for ever song it downloads. /nameofsong/.complete.mp3 and /nameofsong/.mp3.0.partial. It also doesn't seem to be saving and id3 information.

Running on Droid X (2.1)

tguless,

Thanks for the playlist fix. It does seem to be quite a bit faster. Occassionally it will take awhile, but I will just chalk it up to connection issues rather than the code not working.

Hopefully after Sindre reviews the code, it will go into the main source.

Again thanks for keeping an ear open to issues!

Default Music App Now Reads Subsonic Cache in Froyo

Postby barretta » Thu Aug 19, 2010 7:38 am

Just got the 2.2 update & noticed that the default music app seems to be automatically finding all the tracks in the Subsonic cache. Quite nice really. May obviate the need for "save to phone" or "offline" modes in future releases?

I've been having an issue where when I have the 1.6 client playing in the background on Shuffle and I try to access it via the Notification Panel, it clears my playlist and starts over again. It's a bit of a pain because it drops the song it's playing and reshuffles the playlist which drops the songs it's just downloaded so it has to start over again.

barretta - He changed the file save format in the previous version to just save the files as .mp3. Your phone will find any file with a supported extension on the SD Card/storage and make it playable in the stock music player. It's quite convenient.

I think the exit buttons just stops everything that Subsonic is doing right now because there is no way to shutdown apps on android.
