Switchin PCs for subsonic streaming...cant log in on new PC?

Postby cabbie » Tue Aug 24, 2010 2:24 am

I have donated and been lovin subsonic, originally tuned it into my main laptop at home. I've since taken a PC I had that I never use and did the whole reformat thing with intent to use it as a dedicated subsonic PC, basically migrating my paid space on the subsonic server to the new one.

I have everything installed and exceptions set in my firewall for it, but when I go to "open subsonic" and it brings up the login page, I simply cannot get in. I know the username and password is correct. I can't figure out why I'm having trouble. Ive tried logging out on the formerlly used laptop, still nothing. Rebooting router and PC, nothing.

Does my user license only let me use one computer? I wouldn't think so, it seems like I should be able to log in and just set a new home directory. But I can't even log in on thew new PC. I have disabled the firewall and virus protection on the new subsonic PC and have no luck.

If anyone has insight, let me know if theres any more information needed to diagnose the issue.

The user accounts you define in Subsonic are stored locally on your server, not on the central Subsonic server.

So if you move from one computer to another and want to retain all the settings, you have to copy over the c:\subsonic\db directory.

Hope this helps,

okay i did this. I had to ctrl-alt-del subsonic on PC#1 to transfer over subsonic.lck file (btw it would be nice to be able to close the subsonic application by rightclicking the tray icon and selecting exit)

however, i still simply cannot login on PC#2 still. When I go start->programs->subsonic->open subsonic or right-click the tray icon and choose 'open subsonic in browser', it takes me to a login page that will not take my credentials.

Did this ever get resolved? I just did the very same thing (except I'm on a Mac) - transferred over my db folder, yet it won't accept my log in and the localhost web page wants me to set everything up as new.

In the db folder there should be a file called 'subsonic.script' . Make sure Subsonic is not running whilst editing as when you stop subsonic this file will be overwritten.

Open the file and a find the line similar to this.

Code: Select all
INSERT INTO USER VALUES('admin','enc:61646d696e4',0,0,0,FALSE)

and change the password field so that it reads.

Code: Select all
INSERT INTO USER VALUES('admin','admin',0,0,0,FALSE)

Save your changes then start Subsonic. You should then be able to login with username:admin & password:admin

Instead of putting 'admin' in the password field you can use 'enc:61646d696e4' instead.

Thanks for the tip - hopefully it helps someone out. I already decided to just set it all up again. It didn't take too long.
