Streaming to Droid X

Postby jdhartman80 » Wed Sep 15, 2010 4:22 pm

I love this app but i fear i do not have something setup properly. I am always getting a buffering or skipping whenever I stream to my Android device the Droid X.

I have tried to read about transcoders and I even downloaded a new pack and added them to the transcoder file on my PC.

I am still getting the skipping , I had the bitrate set to unlimited and just recently lowered to 160 and still the same result.

Can someone walk me through to see if I have everything setup right on the Subsonic page?

Thanks!

Sure, I have it running on a Moto Droid, Eris and Droid X.
are you just getting skipping music?

You can connect just fine correct?

Can you post your upload and download speeds from where the server sits?
Are you port translating?
Thx

Does this happen if you stream to your Droid over WiFi?

It might just be that your Verizon 3G can't handle a 160k stream. I had to set my HTC EVO to stream @ 128k because when I went higher than that if there was any kind of fluctuation in my 3g speed I would catch my buffer and the song would pause.

Our CDMA 3G speeds (on Sprint and Verizon) are quite a bit slower than the 3G speeds of GSM networks (T-Mobile, AT&T, etc.)

Are the Droid Inc and Droid X both running 2.2? Have you tried to reinstall Subsonic on your X? Since it is working fine on his incredible it makes me think that something is screwy on your X. If you want to stream from my server PM and I'll give you a username and password so at the very least we will be able to tell if it is your phone or server.

I'm having the same problem on a Droid X. I think it has something to do with the android app and certain android phones. I just don't see how it can be the server when it skips over wifi locally. Its downloading the whole song in less than 30 seconds yet I still get skips throughout the song, the Droid X must handle the buffer differently or something..

I've tried installing both 2.2 and the leaked 2.313 froyo builds just to see if it would fix subsonic but no luck. Since I started running subsonic I've also had to upgrade my router and i'm on my 3rd replacement Droid X, all have had this skipping issue.

Kermit22- Do you have a Droid X and are you able to stream over wifi and 3g without any skipping? If you do, please tell us what software version you are running on the server and phone, also which os version are you running on it.

I have the X. I used to have this problem as well. It only ever happened when it was playing the song it was currently downloading. I usually start my stream and hit pause and will start listening after about a minute. I have the following set

mobile bitrate set to 160
Cache size set to 10G and
10 songs set to preload.

yeah I understand the whole pausing thing to let the song(s) download but that is just a band aid over the wound. I like to skip around and play all kinds of songs and its annoying to start into a song only to have it pause and then start again and then completely stop in the middle of working out or something. and then I go to my albums I have saved on my X and play them only to have subsonic start up again and play over top of what I am listening too....I love the app I donated to the dev....just want a solid answer as to why I am having this problem and I am not the only one.

I also upgraded to 2.2 today as well and still the same problem. actually I think its slightly worse...

Great, that was my second to last hope. Was really hoping that would fix it. You upgraded to the Official 2.2 update? Guess now we have to wait for some kind of response from Sindre. Having to pause and play songs when I want to stream is not an acceptable long term solution.

FROYO fixed this issue on my N1 a long time ago. I would delete Subsonic and start from scratch on the phone. Been using Cyanogen 6 for weeks, and still haven't seen this issue recur since FROYO went beta. Back when I had the problem, it was the notifications that caused the skip/pauses...portions of the initial download would cause a notification to pop, along with a pause/skip, almost always only on the first downloaded track...does this soind similar to what you're experiencing?

Technics2000 I have an HTC EVO on Sprint. The only skipping that I've had has been with the way Android handled the notification the same way that alphawave7 described. Since then I've upgraded to my phone to froyo and the subsonic app has gotten an update or 2 also and the pausing has stopped for me. I really thought that the foyo X update would fix this problem for you guys.
